Empty pocket as a swim diaper?

Has anyone ever tried using just an empty pocket diaper in the water? I've heard of this and if it works I can use one of my fuzzibunz covers and save the $.

We have 2 old FBs that we use. Works perfectly, and they're nice and soft against your LO's skin, unlike some swim dipes.

Will it ruin the fb so it can't be used as a regular dipe anymore?

Ive done it the past 2 weekends... it MAY break down the elastic and such... but not in a single use I rinse them out when we get home and then wash with the other diapers.

We have one designated GroBaby(Grovia) shell that we use for a swim diaper once a week for swim lessons. My daughter doesn't have accidents, but if she didn, it should hold it in.

I have 2 bg pockets I use just for this as I just don't like pockets and it works very well! It held a major mess in the other day and I was able to just snap it off and put on the dry one!

I heard that the chlorine is really hard on the PUL and the elastic...but if it's not a great diaper anyways, it should be okay. I just use a swim diaper.

I'm not quite understanding...there doesn't need to be any absorbency in there? That's what I like about swim diapers because it's guaranteed that my son is going to pee once he hits the water and it'll keep the urine away from the skin -even in the water. Where do multiple pees go with no absorbency in the pocket. I can see how having the diaper snug can hold solid waste in...hmm...

Re: Empty pocket as a swim diaper?

Swim diapers don't seem to be that absorbent anyway, you know how they don't soak up the water like a regular diaper? Makes me think that they don't soak up the pee either, and are mainly for catching the solids....

Swim diapers are not designed to hold urine, they become water logged. They are only really designed to contain fecal matter in a public arena and make things easier for parents (instead of toting around a baby with overfilled water logged dirty diaper). As soon as your son's diaper hits the water its filled to capacity with water. And the pee, well it just dilutes into the water.
IMO reusable swim diapers or pockets do a much better job at keeping solid waste material out of water. They fit snugger and the PUL seems much more effective at keeping it in than paper and pulp.
