Re: Empty pocket as a swim diaper?

I have 3 pockets from a friend who used them occassionally as swim diapers for one summer. Elastic was shot (crunchy) in all of them (they had not been used in a few months, stored on an open shelf). PUL is discolored on the inside - kind of yellowish. She rinsed them after getting out of the pool as well. They are fleece SB's - so fixing the leg and front elastic was easy for me to do, the back is a bit harder.

If it is something you can repair easily or do not care as much about - go ahead, just be forwarned

Yes, it might ruin the diaper! As long as you know this and don't use a new dipe for it, you should be fine

Re: Empty pocket as a swim diaper?

I use some old Coolababy (cheapo) diapers for our swim diapers - cheaper than a package of swim diapers and MUCH easier to get on an off wet kiddos...we used them, this weekend at the River....and I just rinsed them off and hung them up with the towels and used them every day...It was super duper easy. These are diapers we are not using and don't fit the kiddos that "great" and they are so cheap it really isn't worth it to try to sell them...they would almost be FFS.

Re: Empty pocket as a swim diaper?

This is what I plan to do. That or just dedicate one PUL cover as a swim diaper.

Re: Empty pocket as a swim diaper?

I use an older (unstuffed) pocket designated just as a swim diaper. works great!

Re: Empty pocket as a swim diaper?

I have a pocket where the PUL is starting to delaminate, so I'm not worried about ruining it. I plan on trying that. But....will the water just collect in the PUL??

This is exactly what we do. And DH thought we were being clever. LOL... I had no idea how popular it is to use a unstuffed pocket nappy.

Re: Empty pocket as a swim diaper?

we have a couple HH with shot PUL that we use. if i ruin them in any other way i really don't mind. i wouldn't do it with a diaper i cared about though because i'm sure pool water isn't nice to dipes.

Re: Empty pocket as a swim diaper?

The neighborhood kids around here (mine included) always seem to end up in someone's sprinkler/kiddie pool/water table. Instead of us mamas running home for swimsuits, the bigger kids (we have a cluster of 3yo's) play in their skivvies and we strip the babies down to just their diaper cover -- remove the insert and just let them play in the cover. We've had success with unstuffed thirsties duos, pockets, bg pockets, flip covers, little g pants with the liner but no stuffing, and fb's. The pockets do tend to hold some pee and the duos and flip covers get a little puddle in the butt more often than other covers, but they all work as intended! We prefer the OS pockets/covers because we can snug them up when the padding is out of them.

(and YES, most of us in my neighborhood CD!!)

ETA:this isn't for chlorinated water.... just water play at home... for pools I like pull-on dedicated cloth swim dipes but have used vinyl covers also in the past and they work too. The vinyl doesn't seem to break down as fast.
