Help me pick a carseat fabric...

I need to order a carseat. It has to be a gender neutral fabric since we don't know the sex.

So, polyester air mesh or micro-fiber velour? I just can't decide.

Here's the link:

Are you using this for a newborn? I've never seen newborns fit well in a convertible seat. They always seem too big initially.
But to answer your question....the velour seems like it would be hot for summer months. Same reason I try not to do something with too dark fabric especially since you won't be taking this seat in and out of the car.

I like the velour.
Love the carseat by the way. I so could have used one that went 3 across when my DDs were younger. This carseat has some awesome features!

Re: Help me pick a carseat fabric...

the radian is supposed to fit newborns really well. I want to get this seat after baby outgrows the keyfit. The mesh seems like it would be more breathable but also like it might snag more. I don't know - I'd probably go with the velour.

I have the velour in my Radian 80 and my MA. Both seem pretty comfy for temp. My ods has a Regent in a weird material, probably close to the mesh that you are looking at and it seems ok too. I prefer the velour over the mesh.

Yes, we are planning on using it for a newborn. I've had carseat techs tell me that it will fit a newborn properly. If not, DH will go buy someting suitable before we have to go anywhere.

I'm leaning towards the brown velour.

I'd say velour. All of my Britax's are velour and it's easy to wash and not really too hot for the kids.

I picked the Ventura pattern. Not sure which fabric it is, but I like it. But if I lived in a hot climate I might have wanted one of the air mesh patterns. I hear they snag easily, though, so since I live in a cooler/temperate climate I picked one of the non-mesh ones.

We have an XTSL in Ventura for DS and it! Between the mesh and velour I definitely prefer the feel of the velour, you also see/hear about the mesh getting snagged a lot if that matter to you. And unless your newbie is very, very tiny I don't think fitting will be a problem, the infant insert is great and the bottom slots are pretty low.

I have velour on my 80sl and my toddler never gets over heated. Bonus the velour is easily cleanable. I keep wondering wth SKJP does to the covers because they pretty much wipe clean with a sposie wipe.
