Re: help me make a list please!

This is helpful! I'm going to be a 3rd time mama, and I still don't know everything I need I mean the obvious but I remember with my YDS running and getting things after he was born.

Something that is kinda sorta for babe is nursing bra/clothing. Thats one thing I forgot last time!

Re: help me make a list please!

Boppy's with a cover are always at TJ maxx for like $25.
I second the bouncy seat. I didn't think I would need one but it really came in handy, especially when I was finally ready to start showering again.
I also was glad I picked up a play mat.
My son loved his bumbo.
And to do it all over again, I would skip the big high chair and go with a booster that has a tray and higher back. My son used the high chair for maybe 6 months max. He has been in the booster at the table since 12m (9m for eating table food). Could have saved us a lot of money there.
Extra bassinet sheets (you may need to change it 2-3 at night if you have a messy sleeper like I did)
Sleep sacks, I loved loved loved these for my son.
nail clippers, nail file, and possibly mittens. Those finger nails grow quick!
beanies (these are too cute if you will be BFing http://www.nobabajustmama.com/detail...Beanie-Cap.109 )

Re: help me make a list please!

For things like a high chair, I think you can just as soon hold off until you actually need it unless you have a lot of storage room. We have this highchair from IKEA(that we LOVE-cheap, easy to clean and compact), but we didn't get it until around 7-8mos since that's when we started BLW.

I think that less is more. You don't really need a changing table/pad/cover. All those costs add up and they are only practical for a few months before you have to start changing on the floor because they roll around too much anyway. We've never had one and never missed it.

I didn't see it on anyone's list, but diaper pail, liners, wetbags, sprayer, etc.

Re: help me make a list please!

excellent mommas! keep em comming! DH eyes about popped out of his head at my list lol and my list is fairly general havn't broke it all down yet and its far from complete. i know a lot of the stuff we don't NEED and people get along fine without them, we got by with a lot less when we brought our god daughter home from the hospital, money was a lot tighter. We are very thankful that we are in a much better position financially, but i'm still very cheap lol if i can get it used in good shape a lot cheaper i'm gonna do it lol.

thanks again ladies!! its amazing how much a new baby needs.

Re: help me make a list please!

Oh, how about things we don't like...I hate plastic baby bath tubs. haha

I would hate taking a bath in 4" of water.

I just wait until the cord comes off and the first bath is with daddy in the big tub and them from that day on, when they need a bath it is either with one of us, or in the big tub with 5-6 inches of water and I just sit on the side and hold babies head, and let them float. I have everything ready that I will need right there including a towel in my nap and just go for it.

My babies (all of them, even the foster babies so over 20) have never cried for those kind of bathes. they love them!

Re: help me make a list please!

As far as a changing table goes, I didn't want to get one that was just a table and that's it. We got a Mission style dresser, so it is higher and put a changing pad on it. It is the only thing she doesn't fight when changing-I think she is scared of falling off! As far as covers, they pee so much on the covers that we would have needed like 5 a day. We went to Petsmart and got puppy pee pads in bulk and used those. Way cheaper than the 'disposable diaper liners' and the like. I always have one in my diaper bag and use it to cover restroom tables, etc.

Re: help me make a list please!

We do baths in the big tub too. In the beginning I use one those foam things and then once babe can sit, use a bath ring seat. We have zero storage for a big baby bath so it works well for us!

The puppy pee pad thing is a really great idea for out and about!! Are those like the things you sit on at the OB? I try to avoid public restrooms, but sometimes you just gotta use one and I do NOT want to put my diaper bag changing pad on the disgusting diaper changer thing and then put it back in my bag.

One of my least liked baby gear items is those exersaucer things. They are enormous and none of my three kids thus far have liked them for more than a couple minutes. A Bumbo with a tray to put toys on was MUCH more useful!

Re: help me make a list please!

Yep, just like them! The package claims they have some kind of special enzyme that makes your pet want to go on them but since 1) my dogs went every BUT the pad, and 2) they are $30-40 for 150, I highly doubt they have anything on them. Maybe the more expensive ones, but not the cheapo bulk package ones! Also, I get those biodegradable poop bags from Petsmart to (formerly) hold disposables and (currently) my disposable Flip inserts and poopy flushable liners if I am somewhere where I can't really flush them. $6.99 for 1000 vs the special disposable 'diaper duck' bags at Babies R Us which are like $10 for 200 or something outrageous like that. I also use pet cleaner for all baby stains-Simple Solution Oxy Solution-takes out ALL organic based stains and works great on baby spit up, poop, pee....all the good stuff! It's like once you label something 'baby' and slap something cutesy on it you can jack up the price 1000%.....I think the stuff meant for my dogs is just as good! =)~
