Re: Does your LO have an umbilical hernia/outie belly button??

She did at first. It went away after about 2 months and now it's not sunken in but kinda flat looking.

Our 2 year old has an outie, but it used to be an innie. Then a year or so ago it would become an outie when he was full. . .now it's just an outie. But I never thought to check for a hernia. Then I was told it was really strange to develop an outie belly button. . . .

Our 7 month old just has a really deep belly button that is still red and gets crusty and stinky like it just hasn't healed. Not a hernia but just a belly button thing.
our 20 month old's bellybutton has turned into an outie too! i was wondering the same thing, but there aren't any bulgy parts and it doesn't change size/shape so i haven't worried about it. i thought it was really funny that it gradually developed into an outie (over the past 4-6 months or so), now it looks exactly like a cabbage patch kid belly button

My DS had an umbilical cord hernia. It is now an "innie" though.

I read recently that someone paid 6k to have their son's outie belly button fixed. Isn't that just absurd?!?!

That's kinda sad, if it was just for cosmetic reasons. I think they're unique, and cute!
And not nearly as hard to clean and keep stink-free as innies are. I feel like my belly button (innie) is only clean when I'm largely pregnant and it's closer to flat.

Ds3 had a small one that popped up at 4w and it was about the size of my pinky tip. It went away last week at 3.5 months and is now a flat swirl just like his brothers'. So weird that it just went away like that!

A lot of times they do go away. Sometimes they disappear completely but other times an outie is left because the skin was stretched.

Both girls have "flatties". They aren't innies and they aren't outties.
