Re: Hamburger/Hotdog Bun Recipe
This is my FAVORITE "sandwich roll" recipe. I make this now instead of loaves of bread, it's my families favorite. I found the website on Recipezar.com, then tweaked it. After making today's batch, I declare my recpie perfect, and DH agreed
It does come out looking like hamburger buns.I mix the ingredients in my bread machine for convenience, but it can me hand mixed/kneaded as well. 1 1/4 C warm milk 3 TBS sugar* 1 Egg beaten 2 TBS butter (softened) 1 3/4 cups white flour * * 1 1/2 Cups whole wheat flour * * 3/4 tsp salt 1 1/4 tsp yeast 2 TBS melted butter Punch dough down. On a lightly floured surface, roll the dough out (like you were going to make buscuits) until about 3/4 inch thick. Using a 3 or 4 inch buscuit or circle cookie cutter, cut the dough out into rounds (the recipe says it makes 14 rolls, I usually get 12 or 13). When you've cut circles, and can't cut anymore but still have a lot of dough left, simply wad up into a ball and re-roll, just like with buscuit dough. Place dough circles on a lightly oiled cookie sheet (I have a sprayer that I fill with vegetable oil, and spray onto the cookie sheet). Let rise about 30 minutes. When I turn the dough onto the counter, I turn the oven onto 200 degrees, when it's warm, but not hot, I turn it off. Then I put my cookie sheets in there for the dough to rise. I find that I get a better rise off of my home made breads when doing it this way. Then after 30 minutes, I just take them out and set them on top of the stove while the oven heats up. Preheat oven to 350 and bake for about 15 minutes. Brush with melted butter, and let cool. * The origional recipe calls for 1/4 cup of honey. I ran out of honey earlier in the week, so I improvised and used 2TBS sugar. Today I made it with 3TBS sugar and it's amazing! * * The origonal recipe calls for 2 3/4 cup white flour and 1 cup of wheat flour. I adjusted the recipe to make it with more whole wheat flour. These rolls never last long! DH loves them for sandwiches, Christian specifically asks for "a peanut butter on the circle bread." I put the milk in a coffee mug and microwave for 1 minute. I cut up the butter into 3 or 4 pads, and toss them into the warm milk, then dump the whole thing into the bread machine. There ya have it. Let me know how you like it! God bless!
