Frustrated Advice?
Ok.. so my DD is FF.. obviously because I'm in this forum lol.. but lately, when I feed her.. she drives me nuts!!
This is why.. I hold her back in like a nursing position, her face is towards my breast, arm under my arm.. head on my arm.. and she drinks her bottle... She actually will throw a fit if in any other position.. but when I.. note not her father, or anyone else.. feed her.. she likes to reach up and smack my face, stratch, pinch.. pull my hair.. she thinks its funny. I tell her firmly no (she is only 5 1/2months I know she doesn't understand lol but gotta try!) I move her hand away, lay it back down, even put it under my hand that is holding the bottle. She still wiggles and will get it out to do it again. It, at first the first time, was funny, but now? She is getting stronger and the smacks really hurt.. I am at a loss. I wear necklaces, nothing attracts her attention.. but she won't drink her bottle in my arms any other position.. she can lay down and hold her bottle already.. but i really don't like to do that very often.. Any advice? I actually dread feeding her because its like a battle for me.. she actually has dug her nails into my face causing me to bleed one day!! Its all funny to her.

Re: Frustrated Advice?
Oh my...little stinker! My 6 month old like to touch my face and my hair (sometimes pull and swing my hair....ouch!!) while she eats so I think its a perfectly normal stage of exploration and I don't have any great advice except to maybe swaddle her...hehe Not sure how well that would go over!!!

Re: Frustrated Advice?
My son went through a phase like that - I stopped wearing earrings - hanging and now studs as he'd get curious and yank them (who would think studs too) and necklaces. I usually wear my hair up but he finds a way to yank too.
When she does that put her down for a few minutes, let her fuss and be mad and tell her you don't do XX to mommy firmly and then try again. Also, try a sippy cup in a high chair... at that age we started - its a bit young for her to catch on but hey, its worth a try. I really like the Nuk ones. We have a collection and that seems to be the best, at least for us. You may need to water down the formula at first as its hard to get out. (Or use water till she gets it out). It took my son a few months to catch on but at about 9 months he could do it and now at 10 he does it at meals but we had to change from ready to feed to powder (he couldn't do powder) - I water it down some - about 1 1/2 scoops to 2 to 5 oz.

Re: Frustrated Advice?
We use a sippy cup in the highchair when we feed her babyfood... I give her a little bit of Pedialyte; our doc said its actually really good for them and they can drink it when they aren't sick like gatorade.. and surprisingly, she can do it all by herself! We use Nuby ones!

Re: Frustrated Advice?
I would suggest maybe swaddling her and see if that might help.

Re: Frustrated Advice?
Maybe allow her to put her hand to your face but hold it. Tell her repeatedly soooft touches while softly caressing your face or hair with her hand. My boys were very interested in touching mommys pretty face and hair but had no concept that they were rough about it. So I would help them all the while showing with a big smile that I was happy to be touched softly. Lots of positive affirmation when they were soft of course and firmly telling them No, owww when not lol. Good luck and I am sure it will pass quickly, well hopefully lol.

Re: Frustrated Advice?
encourage the soft touches, but also look into a nursing necklace. Nursing necklaces are not just for nursing moms and babes, they work out great for bottle fed babes as well.

Re: Frustrated Advice?
Thanks ladies! I feel like I come out of a battle when feeding her! And I hate that I don't like when it comes time to feed - it makes me feel bad but how can i enjoy it when I come out with scratches and red marks?! lol I will try the soft touches and look into a nursing necklace.
