Re: Walking and talking.
DS said his first word at 9 months, but didn't start walking until closer to 13. I think he would have walked sooner if we didn't live in a house with tiled floors. He walked without issue the day after we moved out of that house and completely gave up crawling. He's a very cautious kid.

Re: Walking and talking.
Mygirls were exact opposites. DD1 talked at 8 mos and walked at 13 mos. DD2 talked at 16 mos and walked at 9 mos.

Re: Walking and talking.
My son talked, then walked. He had about 20 words by his first birthday, and started walking 3 days before his first birthday.

Re: Walking and talking.
Thanks everyone!
My definition of walking is being able to get where they want to get on their feet without help. And talking is saying words intentionally. Like when Em wants me she says "Mommy".

Re: Walking and talking.
My DD started saying words at 8 months and started walking independently a week before her first birthday.

Re: Walking and talking.
DD walked at 12 months and had a few words but I wouldn't say she was full blown talking. Now at 19 months she has been talking our ear off for a few months.

Re: Walking and talking.
First dd - talked at 8 months and walked at 12 months
Second dd - walked at 11 months and didn't talk until 22 months. Ds at 9 months says mama and dada sometimes but doesn't walk yet - close though. |

Re: Walking and talking.
Both of the girls walked before they talked. They walked between 12-13 months but dd1 didn't start talking until she was 2 1/2 and dd2 is just now talking at 20 months.

Re: Walking and talking.
My son talked first, but it was just basic words "mama" "dada" "baba" which he said those around 8 months. He walked at 12 months exactly so he wasn't a "late" walker or anything though.
Now, at almost 16 months he walks and runs and says -mama -dada -baba -hi -bye bye -no -ok -really -seriously...this one embarrasses me...I say it way too much and he caught on ![]() There might be a few I'm missing too. I don't think he's behind though.

Re: Walking and talking.
It's been true for all of mine, but they haven't all progressed the same way.
#1 walked at 9 months and talked at 12. #2 talked at 9 months and walked at 14. #3 talked at 10 months and walked at 15. |
