Mommy diagnosed with cancer right after birth.

Hi mamas,

I've never posted in the prayer forum before (although I do believe in the mighty power of prayer); but I have a serious, serious request for you prayer warriors tonight.

My friend, Dusty, recently gave birth to a lovely, healthy baby girl; soon after the birth, they did bloodwork and her platelet counts were all screwy - they said her blood panel looked to be consistent with leukemia. After a bone marrow biopsy - the cancer was confirmed - all before she had even left the hospital with her new baby! She has acute myeloid leukemia which is a very rare, dangerous and rapidly spreading cancer.

She has started a very rigorous 7 days course of treatment, after which she'll have to remain in the hospital for 3 weeks as she will be very weak and prone to infection. During this time, she will be unable to see her new baby or have any visitors as the risk for infection (due to the aggressive chemo) is too high.

Dusty and Jeff have a super stong faith in God and they are both preparing themselves for this fight but I cannot imagine the fear and doubt that must be trying to push its way to the surface. And for the life of me, I cannot imagine giving birth and then saying goodbye for almost a month while others care for my LO - and then having to be physically and emotionally strong for the treatment that lies ahead. She has already cut her hair short in preparation for her hair loss; Dusty is such a kind, discerning, godly woman - please, please take even a second out of your day to lift her up in prayer.

Thanks mamas for your care.

Jen

I am sorry to hear about this. Prayers said.

Blood cancers are never fun. This site helped me out with my lymphoma (though I am also a rare breed so I have not a lot in common with anyone). http://forums.lymphoma.com/index.php I don't know if it will help or not but I thought I would offer.

I hope she gets better soon. I know if I come out of remission I am looking at something like what she is looking at.

This happened to a friend of mine--same diagnosis--6 weeks postpartum. I'm sorry to hear about your friend. I hope she has a good recovery. She will be in my prayers.

Re: Mommy diagnosed with cancer right after birth.

I prayed for Dusty may the love for her new little one provide her with the strength she will need to fight and win this battle. Giving birth when she did allowed them to have this bloodwork so possibly they caught it very early. Courage to you to, so you can provide her with the shoulder she will need to lean on during this time when she will be needing your strength and prayer.
