3rd birthday party ideas

My DD will turn 3 in Sept and I want to have a little party for her with family and a few close friends. The last thing she needs is more toys so I wanted to come up with a different idea for her birthday party. A friend of mine suggested a sticker party (I assume that is where everyone would bring her a pack of stickers?) not entirely sure how this works but I know she would love this.

What have you done for birthdays? Any good theme ideas? I think we are going with a My Little Pony theme so any thoughts to go along with that? Nothing big probably dinner (Pizza) and cake.

You could do a book trade party, where everyone brings a wrapped book (you can either do new or used), and then have all the kids choose one from the pile. Then everyone gets a book to take home.

Too many toys is anoying, but one can never have too many books!

We did a garden theme for Levi's b-day, had the kids paint flower pots and plant seeds (and I stuck pinwheels in them as temporary flowers when they wernt looking), I made a big number 3 on posterboard and put out markers for the kids to decorate it for Levi. We did a pinata made from a paper bag (which I meant to decorate but never did), and then played in the pool the rest of the time!

I also made this for the center peice

and a flower cake (not for ds to eat, he is allergic to everything so had seperate cupcakes!)

And I did the thank you cards like this b/c they were emailed to everyone:

My son turns 3 in Sept. I like the book trade idea. I'm feeling the same way about toys.

I have decided that for the girls' bdays from now on, I will let those attending know that any toys they decide to give will be given to a women & children's shelter. For DD's 3rd bday this year, I just let her pick 3 friends to have over to play & have lunch & cupcakes. There wasn't a theme, it was just a play date with better than usual food. I asked the moms not to bring gifts, and no one did! Yay!

Love the book trade! My DS will be 3 in March & I think I'll use that. What about an art party? My kids love art supplies. You could even have a little craft table for kids to make their own favors.
