My Mood:
Anyone here doing Thomas Jefferson Education?

There is a woman moving to our town who is one of those types who likes to draw people together. She's started other homeschooling groups in the other places she's lived and now she's starting one up here in my hometown. This is all well and good as far as I'm concerned since our former group fell apart a few years back when most of the group (military) was relocated or retired.

She's heavily into TJE and gave me a rough outline of what it's all about. Sounds to me like a structured form of unschooling, really. (That's a contradiction in terms, but as a radical unschooler I was prepared to dislike any education program. However, TJE seems open-ended enough to allow an unschooling way of thought.)

She's calling it an "EPIC Adventure" and it's literature-based, mainly following hero-quest type of stories. Fantastic, because they're using books I'd be reading with my kids anyway and this will allow dialouge/crafts/field trips that I may not have done. We'll participate up to the point (if there is one) where we start to feel uncomfortable, though it doesn't seem that there will be assignments or homework - just projects and fun stuff.

Was just wondering if anyone had any experience with TJE and what your thoughts on it are. Thanks!
