nak...
we were told when our son was born that his pen*is curved a bit. the doc at the hospital told us that if we were to have him circ'd (which we were not planning) then a pedi urologist would have to do it. now our pedi is refering us to a pedi urologist and he might have to have surgery. he is only 3 mos...any experience?

Re: my baby boy has chordee...any experience
You can surely wait until after 2 years when anethesia is less risky. As long as baby is peeing there is no reason for surgery on a infant. My son had mild hypospadius and chorddd and we waited until 2 to have surgery. He can still keep his forskin in most cases.

Re: my baby boy has chordee...any experience
Before I did anything with circ-ing, I'd make sure to get a second opinion (from someone I found, not through a recommendation...sometimes they'll just go by what the other doctor said). And I'd go through the information at http://nocirc.org so I know my facts. And I'd probably consult with the doctor at NoCirc (he'll help through e-mail). They have doctors on their website, too, so you could start there. You'd at least go into the second opinion knowing the doc isn't a circ-happy one.

Re: my baby boy has chordee...any experience
my son had this as well as mild hypospadias...he was circ'd so they could use the foreskin for the hypospadias repair. He was 10 months old...and we made sure that the surgury was done at a very good children's hospital with pediatric anesthesiologists...and he did just fine. It took a few weeks for him to really recover...but over all things went well and I'm glad we had it done when he was young enough to not have any memory of the surgery/recovery period. He is almost 2 now, and I could NOT IMAGINE him having that surgery now....it would be much worse when he is old enough to have more idea of what is going on. I'm also really glad it is behind us...he was still nursing when the surgery was done and that was a good source of comfort for him (along with the pain medicine...which was tylenol with codine for the first few days and then just tylenol). feel free to PM me if you have any other questions.

Re: my baby boy has chordee...any experience
DS2 had cryptorchidism and had to have surgery at 13 months on it. Not the exact same thing but the same "area", so we were referred to a ped. urologist. He was quite happy we kept the boys intact and promised to bring him back the same way. Thankfully ds was still nursing so he was able to come to me as soon as he woke up enough to move. He was fine the next day, but a little woozy from the meds.

Re: my baby boy has chordee...any experience
Not my son but my nephew. He had hypospadias also. He was not circ'd at birth and they were debating no repairing the hypo but as he got older 18-24months his penis started to curve more. They had a consult with a pediatric urologist ( out of Hershey Medical center) and had surgery at 2 1/2. He was already potty trained at the time and it was a bit traumatic to him because they had a stint to keep his uretra open and he dripped pee.
My sister will telll you to have it done well before potty training. She said if she had to do it over again ( and had a correct diagnosis from birth) she would have it corrected at the 12-15 month range so he wouldnt remember it. Her son was mad they put "zippers on his penis( stitches) FYI he is a happy healthy normally developed 16 yr old now

Re: my baby boy has chordee...any experience
You might want to post something on this forum for support or suggestions
http://www.mothering.com/discussions...splay.php?f=44 there are many active mom's on that board with experience with intact sons with chordee & hypospadias.

Re: my baby boy has chordee...any experience
Thanks for all of your advice and stories. I really want to keep my little guy intact, but I will do what is best for him. I have nothing against circ'ing or people who choose that for their children, but while I don't know any uncirc'd males in real life, DH and I agree that cosmetic surgery for our lo is not necessary. However, if he has something that necesitates circ'ing we will do it. However, after doing further online research on my own, I don't think he has chordee. I was looking at pics on the Stanford medical school website and that isn't what his looks like at all. In fact, I think he looks like he has penile torsion. Which may require surgery but not necessarily and almost never requires circ'ing. Will I look like an idiot if I tell the urologist, "hey I think my pedi referred me for the wrong disorder"?

Re: my baby boy has chordee...UPDATE IN POST 9
I would go to the ped urologist and tell him that you have a referal for an issue that your PED thought was Chordee but when you did some research online it kind of looked like torsion... A good doctor will take time to explain the difference and they why / why not. Good luck with your little one and your referal. Oh and if you dont like the answers dont be afraid of getting another ped urologist consult.
