My Opinion on Spoiling Baby by Holding Too Much

So, I think we all have heard that line "don't hold your baby too much or they will become spoiled." I heard it so much and it made me and still makes me so darn mad.. First.. I'm sick of hearing it second I think its a load of bologna lol
I just wrote a new blog post about this because I had to vent.. I am sooo sick of my mom saying that BWing my DD will make her spoiled that I am ready to pull my hair out!
Here is the link: http://screamsandhugs.blogspot.com/2...-new-moms.html

I thought maybe some of you who agree with me would like it!
I quoted an awesome passage from BBslen's info booklet that came with my new wrap - perfect!

I am 100000000% percent with you on this one, mama! I don't believe there is such thing as spoiling babies (older kids, sure, but not babies). And I believe that comfort and attention are as vital and valid needs for babies as food and sleep are.

Exactly! I really believe too that when you think about it from like a baby's standpoint, the whole experience is scary, especially in the beginning.. they NEED to be held. As the get older, yes they need to be put down, let to play and explore their new abilities, but I feel like holding and comforting them really reassures them that we are there for them supporting them!

This is why I don't believe in CIO (unless you're talking about a 5 year old who just needs some space to get it out). There is a valid reason for the baby to be crying, whether it's that they are scared or lonely or wet or thirsty, or whatever!

I don't babywear but I think saying a child is spoiled is dumb and always have... I always say the baby is "well-loved" - you can't give a child too much attention, etc at that age. I think there is a balance and my son likes to be put down and have his independence but when he wants his love and attention, he wants it and makes it clear.

Spoiling is what happens when you put food up on a shelf and forget about it.
Holding your child and tending to their needs is called love.

Yup, I agree! My DD definitely has times when she wants down and she wants to play on the ground now that she is rolling, almost crawling she just loves to play but whenever she really wants Mommy to love and give her attention.. or whatever it is.. I do so!

I wore ds for several hours a day the first few months. Now that he has became active, he spends a lot of time on the floor "playing" w/ his brothers and exploring. I still wear him, but not nearly as much. You spoil them by giving them everything they want as they get older, not w/ love and affection.
