Re: Circumcism rates are dramatically falling

Insurance companies are starting to not cover it and people are becoming educated on it. That's great! I'm very scared that DH will insist on circumcising when we have a boy because leaving them intact is unheardof where we come from.

LOL.

You'd never know it from this site.

Every time there has been a thread about uncirc'd peni on adult males, just about every person chimes in saying they have seen one...

I wonder if these rates were based on circumcisions done IN hospitals. I know many take place in dr offices, so that would mean the data isn't entirely accurate
Oh sure. but not saying anything suggests either the study was bad in some way, not fully vetted yet, or not a study at all.

AAP has not recommended circing since 1999. I doubt that they'd hide the figures if they were real/true. They don't care.

So if an insurance company pays $2500 for a vaginal delivery, the doc gets $2500 whether the circ is done or not.
I guess that is assuming they are done in the hospital...I have a nephew and a ds who were both done in the drs office. Nephew was not covered by state insurance. DS was covered by private insurance. Neither were part of the cost of delivery and both were done in the nb period.

Also, as someone else said, neither dh or I had seen an intact penis until ds was born.

And yay! for the rates falling. I am against circ and dh and I go round and round about it!

I've noticed that, too. I guess they weren't hanging around in SC during my dating years.

eta: I've seen one, too! (But it is on my 5 week old )

Re: Circumcism rates are dramatically falling

Medicaid covers it in OH... if they didn't, I know DS would be intact, but because they covered it, family pressured us into it. I wouldn't have forked over the money.

EXACTLY! A doctor can "supplement" their income by doing circs, and can make an additional $12,000/yr just by performing circs.

Then, the hospitals sell the foreskins to cosmetic and pharmaceutical companies. One foreskin is worth up to $100,000.

Re: Circumcism rates are dramatically falling

Yay! That is great news! Like some others... I look at my little boys' parts and can't imagine them not being the way they are (even though I hadn't ever seen a non-circ'd penis before), I think DH and I did a fabulous job making every bit of them!
