Ok so this sounds intriguing to me. How do you know when your kid needs to go? I know the grunting, but not peeing. How long does it take for them to go and do you just hold them over a bowl?

Re: ok I'm intrigued-how do you know when
DS is almost 4 months and he usually kicks his feet, wines/cries or will look down sometimes I miss his signs, sometimes I just know. I also do timing while he eats, right after, right when he wakes up. Hes pretty good at going within a minute or two. I hold him over a baby potty but you can use almost anything. We also use a potty word for us its PEE-pee, we use shhhh to help sleep so we didn't want to confuse him.

Re: ok I'm intrigued-how do you know when
You can learn their peeing routine and then know when to take them. It's very common for babies to pee more in the morning than night. And other certain times you learn when the pee.
We did lots of naked time and just wearing a fitted diaper without a cover, so I knew right when he did pee, then I learned how long it would be till he had to pee again. Check the resource section for books about EC, they are a great way to learn more. We didn't start till DS was 5 months. |

Re: ok I'm intrigued-how do you know when
Different babies give out different signals indicating when they have to pee. It can also vary by age. When my DS was 5 weeks to 4 months it was easy to tell because he would get fidgety in his sling. A sudden discontent-ness was our cue. Right after he would go, he would be calm and content again. Later ages he would use sign language, cry, or run to the potty. We also used timing. Some babies don't show any signs for pee I hear-but the best way to see or learn is to go diaper-less for a while or use a non-waterproof diaper or trainer, like the poster above said.
We used an old wipes box at first as a receptacle, a big plastic bowl, the regular toilet, little potties, and even water bottles in the car!

Re: ok I'm intrigued-how do you know when
Everyone's given really good answers. Just wanted to add my encouragement, and second the fact that you will start to recognize cues or start to get in tune with timing it! We've been catching pees and poops since DD was 6 months, and she picked up on the whole potty thing really fast. Babies WANT to eliminate outside their diaper!!

Re: ok I'm intrigued-how do you know when
Is there a chart that tells you roughly how often a baby of a certain age pees? I guess it is unlikely since there are so many variables, but I just wondered.
