Re: Has anyone else ever done this? (Written phone number on kids?)

I write inside ds's shoe w/ a permanent marker and occasionally check to make sure that the ink has not rubbed off.

Yes I do. Instead of writing it on his skin I write it on a big bandaid and put it on his chest. He knows that if he gets lost to show a grown up worker or mommy with kids too. I usually put on it, Cory: I am lost please call my Mommy and my cell phone number.

Re: Has anyone else ever done this? (Written phone number on kids?)

My mom used these wristbands that are like mini fanny packs with super strong velcro and slipped her phone number and name inside, I use those with DD1. I've also had her wear a pair of my dog tags or DH's dog tags so that if she did somehow get seperated, she could show an adult Mom or Dad's name.
I never tell her to look for another mom, always someone with a uniform and a badge or a nametag with the logo of where we are.

I just use a regular ball-point pen. It doesn't smudge and stays put for the day we need it to, then washes off easily. We've never had to implement the plan, so I don't know if they would forget about it being there if they were panicked. I would *think* not, though, since we go through writing it and talking about the plan right when we're leaving the vehicle. Hopefully they feel that it's a connection to me and it would be one of the first things they think about if they lost me. But I would also think that when an adult starts questioning them like, "What's your mom's name? What does she look like? Etc." that a phone number question would come up and that would remind them.

I'm sure it's not GOOD for their skin, but my kids have texture/touch issues and refuse to wear any kind of bracelet/necklace/anklet type of thing and a bandaid (like a PP suggested) would drive them crazy, so directly on the skin is the best solution for us.

We also do the card in the pocket trick. OR when the big boys were little we would pin our campsite number to their backs.

We have taught our kids not to find a "mommy" though but to find a "worker" when we go to crowded places. They know now what a "worker" is but when they were little we would make a game of pointing out cashiers, clerks, security, etc that they could go to.
