Re: Can a FF baby remain EFF until a year??

Honestly, it sounds as if it's bordering on neglect. If this were a child in my daycare, I would have reported the parent to DHS.

Oh, that's sad to hear....

As far as a FF baby and solids, they too can go without solids for the first year but honestly a few solids IMO is a good idea. Not so much for the nutrionally value b/c there isn't much in what they eat but more for other developmental reasons. They learn to swallow and chew, how to pick up foods and feed themselves, etc.

Have you asked the mama why her DC has lost weight again? It's so hard to see something like this I'm sure, but by asking her questions you might be able to find a way to help her that doesn't seem so intrusive. KWIM?

he can stay EFF, they get all the nutrients they need from the Formula. But they also get nutrients from food as well. especially if she were to make his baby food and really watch what she feeds him.

It sounds like she needs to calorie pack his formula and put him on a high fat diet.

At this point, I wouldn't want to watch my child suffer. I'd do anything I could do to make him/help him gain weight.

I would wonder if she has been watering down the formula b/c of cost. I know of a couple of friends whose husbands watered down formula b/c they thought it was too thick for the baby. They didn't realize their mistake until the doctor said baby wasn't gaining weight. Just an idea.

That's what I was thinking too He is very hungry and he obviously needs more...

I think maybe I'll offer to make her baby food if she buys the food and then all she has to do is heat it up I made baby food for 6 months for my DD and didn't find a time/energy issue with it...I make food for the rest of the family, why not my baby?? kwim? Anyways, I hope she takes me up on the offer. I'll update you guys!

Her mom buys all the formula for her son. Her mom offered to buy her the organic similac if she would start supplementing...right then she decided to wean and her mom has been buying since. So I don't think she'd be watering it down.

There has to be something else going on with that baby.

My son was almost EFF for a year. He ate solids but they made up very little of his caloric intake. Towards the end of the year I started adding an extra scoop of powder to the mix. He is healthy and growing well.'

What is the doctor saying about all this? I would be really concerned.
