How can I get them to sleep in?

My LOs wake up as soon as they see light. So, 6:45-7am. Once for a few days in a row, they were up around 6am. They go to bed 6 nights a week at/around 8pm.

Anyway, aside from really not wanting to get up with them so early, I also really think they NEED to sleep longer.

As it is, they nap abour 2.5 hours everyday (give or take a half hour), starting around 11am/12pm.

They will NOT take a second nap later in the day, but I am finding that by 4-5pm, they are really getting worn out. Rubbing eyes, yawning, crying for things that normally wouldn't make them cry, whining, etc. I tried to institute a "quiet time" around this time of day but it really didn't work well.

I can't make their nap any later at all b/c they are completely on the verge of meltdown mode if I wait past noon.

Any suggestions? I have blackout curtains in their rooms already. So their bodies are waking them up at this time. But they def need more sleep. Should I try putting them down earlier?

If they wake up at 6 am no matter what, just put them to bed earlier. That way at least they are getting enough sleep. You can't really control when they wake up. My DS is the same way.

Sometimes putting to bed earlier doesn't work. I would try blackout curtains, which you can make yourself if you can't find them.

I don't know how old they are, but I know of some families who use a particular clock that has a light you can set on it to come on at a specific time. It was then just a matter of teaching the kids that they can play quietly in their rooms (maybe leave water sippies in there at night?) until the light came on the clock, and then they were allowed to go bug Mom and Dad.

I don't know I think if they're getting up too early, I'd try to keep them up later at night. Perhaps edge it back a few minutes each night.

Thanks. They do have blackout curtais already.

The clock thing sounds like a good idea... or something similar.

They are definately not getting enough sleep b/c they are etting overtired between naps and bedtime. So somewhere they need more sleep, and extending the nap is not possible, neither is doing the nap later. I'm going to start doing bedtime at 7pm.

Blackout shades! My girls were always waking up early until I installed those puppies and instead of waking up at 6am with the first morning light they are getting up at 8:30!

You can find them at most home type stores. You can also make them. They have room darkening material at places like Jo-Ann's Fabric. You can choose your fabric and line it with the room darkening stuff. Pretty simple to do and alot cheaper.
