Dry skin what do you use?

DD is 5.5 mos and her face is so dry and chapped and flaking. She is constantly scratching and rubbing her face. We have tried Auquaphor, Cetephil, Vaseline, and Aloe Vera. It just is so dry and red. The rest of her body is all red and bumpy too.

What do you use on your LO's sensitive skin?

Re: Dry skin what do you use?

If she's that bad, have you taken her in? Sounds like it could be severe excema, or food allergies??
For DS's dry patches and keratosis I use the Gentle Naturals Excema cream. It's a heavy cream, and def. Seals in the moisture.
Poor babe. And try NOT to bathe her. Do every other night or so, and if you have to use a soap, use California baby Sensitive skin.
Oh, and I only wash DS's hair, and let the soap run down his body when I rinse him off.

Just read that again... at 5.5 months, (any age for that matter) I'd def take the babe in. Could be sensitive to formula or bm.

I wondered about that. Her 6 mo apt is in 2 weeks. I have figured out I can't eat chocolate or drink milk, she will projectile vomit...although other dairy is ok. She is ebf so I guess it couuld be something I'm eating. I also think she has an allergy/sensitivity to other laundry soaps and my sisters cats.

We also only bathe her every couple of days and have started using baking soda baths and no soap and it helps a little

Yea, you might need to work on an elimination diet mama. We gave up on soap/lotion/shampoo altogether for DS and his dry patches went away and haven't come back. We just use water and a washcloth.

When you bathe her, do you use soap? If so, stop right there! Her dry, sensitive skin doesn't need chemicals added to it, that will just make it worse. Try using a bit of olive oil if she has gunk on her skin or in her hair that needs to be loosened, but otherwise, just water! I would also use olive oil or coconut oil to moisturize.

What kind of laundry detergent do you use, and have you tried other ones?

If she had a major reaction to milk, but you haven't eliminated all dairy, I'd start there.

We use CJ's BUTTer. The Stick o' BUTTer is best for the face, imo.

Re: Dry skin what do you use?

Thanks for the advice. My MIL keeps wanting me to see this lady who make lotions and soap from goats milk. If I think it might be a dairy intolerance would goats milk bother her?

Also is there anyway for her dr to test for milk/dairy allergies in the office or is the only way to know to stop eating it.

I also use Dreft for her clothes and RNG for her diapers. No probs on the bum with RNG but she is really red and itchy on her body too. If it is the Dreft what else could I use? Use RNG on all her clothes?
