One day you will look back and these long tiresome days will be a thing of the past! We hit that around 10 months old- and from what I hear from quite a few other twin moms, is that 9 months is really a turning point! Thank heavens for swings and bouncy seats!

Re: Introduce your Preemie(s)!

I hope 10 months will be our turning point. I walked in a haze for about 7 months!! Still pretty tired after that but managing better. Mine are 10 months today!!

Swings and bouncy seats are lovely. Mine slept in those for like 3 months days and nights. I also never did pacisifers until the twins. It was so much help!!

Re: Introduce your Preemie(s)!

I don't get to post much, but I will say a little.

I have 5 children
#1 was 38 weeks 8lb 6oz
#2 was 39 weeks 9lb 8oz (born with spina bifida)
#3 was 39 weeks 8lb 4 oz

#4 & 5 were 34 weeks 1 day 5lb 8oz and 5lb 10oz
They are 10 months today and nearly 20lbs!!

They spent 10 days in the NICU. Our daughter needed air and both had feeding trouble. Both are still happily nursing now! They noticed I was in labor when I went in for a non-stress test. Turns out I was dialated to a 3. They tried to transfer us to a hospital with a NICU, but 1 hour later I was a 6 and the babies came not too much later. They were stabalized and then transfered to another hospital.

All mine were born naturally one at home.

Re: Introduce your Preemie(s)!

Hello, I am Katie, and my preemie was born in July 2010 at 32 weeks and 4 days. I had a great pregnancy and was very active right up until my PROM… Then Baby Ayden was born within 12 hours. I was losing fluid but my labor did not start for a couple of hours, but once it did there was no stopping it or Ayden from making an appearance. I was able to get 1 steroid shot before he was born completely naturally. Ayden was 4lbs 12 oz at birth and has been gaining ever since.

Ayden was initially placed on CPAP, and then on a ventilator for 6 hours where he got one dose of surfactant. Then within 18 hours of being born he was on room air. We spent 5 weeks in the NICU waiting for Ayden to learn how to eat and stop having oxygen desaturations. He had an NG tube for 3 weeks, until he could get up to full feeds by mouth. I am happy to say that he has only been fed breast milk from day 2. He is now 2 months old and breast and bottle (EBM) feeding and doing great. He is already 9lbs 8 oz and growing like crazy.

Re: Introduce your Preemie(s)!

Oh boy...here we go.

DD1 - Preterm contractions starting at 23 weeks. Had Terb for awhile then Procardia until 37 weeks. She was born 5 days after stopping meds at 37 weeks and 5 days. Weighed 7lbs 11oz. Healthy as a horse and so smart.

DD2 - All day sickness (hyperemesis) until 20 weeks. I never had it with DD1. Contractions at 30 weeks that were stopped. Planned a homebirth and at 34 weeks we discovered she was breech. Lost my mucous plug that night. At 35weeks and 2 days, went to the hospital for contractions. They stopped after 4 doses of Terb. Her fluid was 8. Saw the doctor on a Monday at 35.5 weeks and her fluid was a 5 and I was contracting every 2-3 minutes. Hung on for two more days and at 36 weeks and 0 days her fluid was a 2 and I had a C-section for breech and oligohydramnios. She was 6lbs 3oz and never went to the NICU. She had an initial blood sugar of 27 and they admit to the NICU for 25 so they immediately gave her 15ccs of formula and her blood sugar came back up to normal. That was the only formula she ever had and she weaned at 18 months.

DS1 - Severe hyperemesis until 26 weeks. Had a PICC line that gave me TPN and Zofran. It didn't help much and the PICC was removed at 17 weeks. At 24 weeks I started contracting and had a shortened cervix. Went home on strict bedrest after getting Terb and betamethasone. At 27 weeks I had pyelonephritis and was hospitalized overnight. At 28 weeks I had a marginal placental abruption and was hospitalized for 9 days. At 30 weeks and 4 days it was discovered at a visit to the maternal fetal medicine specialist that my lower uterine segment was extremely thin (they compared it to Saran Wrap). I was admitted and started on Magnesium Sulfate. They wanted to get me to 34 weeks and I made it to 32 weeks and 4 days. They kept me in L&D the whole time (the hospital had a Perinatal Special Care Unit but I was too high risk to go there apparently) and the afternoon that I delivered, I had a sudden onset of severe pain in my lower abdomen and they were thinking that I ruptured my uterus. Fortunately I hadn't but was close. Jack weighed 4lbs 7oz. He had RDS and was vented for 24 hours, on CPAP for 24 hours and then was on and off the nasal cannula for then next 2 weeks. He did need to learn to eat but was breastfeeding at 2 weeks old. He came home after 34 long days. He is now 10 weeks old (tomorrow) and doing so well. His issue in the NICU was desaturations and he was placed on caffeine and sent home on a monitor. We stopped the caffeine after two weeks and we just discontinued the monitor in the last week. He had exclusive breastmilk from day 1 and is currently EBF with no bottles.

Nice to see this thread and know that there are other mamas who went through the NICU experience.

Re: Introduce your Preemie(s)!

Such precious babies!

My preemie was #5 for us. She was born at 34w5d and 6lb1oz, I was induced because from 24 weeks on she measured as having IUGR, which she didn't, we spent weeks at the peri doing Bios and NSTs. The only reason they came up with was just that her head is larger than average and it threw off her other measurements. She is 3 years 6 months now and weighs 45 pounds, so she is in no way small. She had no NICU time, but did spend 3 days in pediatric unit for jaundice and fluids.

Will see if I have any pics of her, her lowest weight was 5 pounds 3 ounces at the hospital.

Re: Introduce your Preemie(s)!

I'm a mom of 4, and my first two were preemies. DD1 was born at 36w 1d, weighing in at 6lb 5oz. We were told her early arrival was "just a fluke", until I went into PTL at 30 weeks with DD2.

I was hospitalized for 7 days before she was delivered by c/s for fetal distress. She was born at 31w 1d, weighing in at 3lb 15oz. She was on a vent for 7 days, had NEC, sepsis and pneumonia, and was discharged after 46 days in the NICU. She'll be 5 in December, and is delayed about a year.

DS1 was born at 39w 1d, after going into PTL at 32 weeks, and being treated with 17-OH-P and nifedipine. DS2 landed me on bedrest at 20 weeks for a short cervix. I got off bedrest at 28 weeks, and delivered him at 39w 3d!

Re: Introduce your Preemie(s)!

Jocelynn Makena 02-20-2007 born 31wks 3lbs 9oz due to incompetent cervix after 5 weeks in hospital bedrest. She spent 3 1/2 weeks in the NICU 2 small brain hemorages. Only 12hours on c-pap and another 12 with oxygen help(largely in part to steriod shots I got at 27weeks) Bad jaundice that required 2 blood transfusions. Her biggest issue was digestion, got c-diff from bm sitting in her stomach for too long. Finally came home on st patrick's day weighing barely over 4lbs. Severe reflux for the 1st yr but no significant developemental delays other than just being sooooo tiny at 6months she could crawl but only weighed 9lbs lol We still deal with GI issues, my poor little girl stays constipated Also she was born with under-developed nerve ending and we have to watch her closely for that especially with extreme temps and illness' I will find pics and add later
