More Thrush questions
I am using nystatin cream usp to treat my nipples. One is really cracked (had some pus today) will the nystatin help with the crack? I was using lansinoh but it isn't getting any better. Do I have to wash the nystatin off before every feeding?

Re: More Thrush questions
Yes, you are supposed to wash off the nystatin. Cracked nipples are awful!
When I had thrush I tried nystatin but didn't like using it. A product that I found to work really well is Motherlove Diaper Rash and Thrush Relief. It is all natural and can be used on nipples or baby's diaper yeast rashes. It seemed to work pretty quickly for me. I just wiped it off with a cloth before feeding, it was mostly absorbed by that point anyway. Another thing that might help is a bit of neosporin on the bad spots, but you'd need to actually wash that off. Here's a link to the motherlove salve http://www.motherlove.com/category/r...es-thrush.html They also carry it at cottonbabies with free shipping. Hope you feel better soon!

Re: More Thrush questions
You can also use something called Gentian Violet ( sold at most drug stores)It is an old timey natural remedy. You only have to use a little at a time. it is a liquid and you use a q-tip to apply it. It is not harmful as long as it is used in small quantities (like don't drink it) you do not have to wash it off and you can use it instead of the nystatin for your baby too! You just wipe a small ammount into the baby's mouth w/ a q-tip after feedings or at least 3 times a day. The only draw back is that it stains. It is a dark purple color, so you and the baby will look like barney for a few days but I have never seen anything clear up thrush like this does. And I have had 3 which I have used it on! Also it will dry onto your nipples therefore when you put a salve on them, be it neosporin or lansinoh the medicine will actually stay on, instead of being smeared and diluted by the salve! Also you may want to use a nursing pad not only to protect you bra but place the salve onto it that way it will stay in place longer.Best wishes with this issue. I share your pain I have absolutely been there and breastfed like you! Hope this will help!
