Anyone's dc been sick when you brought a nb home?

My dd who is 2 just came down with a fever and cold and all that fun stuff on Sunday. She's still pretty miserable. I woke up with sore throat. I am already past my dd so anytime now right (or never if you ask me) the new baby should be here.

I am concerned about the nb being exposed to the fever. I do breast feed and plan on doing that a ton...but still it worries me.

Anyone BTDT.

Oh and I hope my cold doesn't get worse before I go into labor either.

I know a lot of people don't think about this but...

Hospitals are FULL of germs. At least with germs at home, your body is building antibodies to them, which passes to your baby and is in your breastmilk.

Chances are your body will wait until this has passed to go into labor (our bodies are smart like that!!) but I wouldn't worry about germs at home as much as the germs and all in the hospital... Your body will create tons of good antibodies to the germs you've been pre-disposed to and pass that along to your little one!

I wouldn't worry!!!

The day after me and DD got home from the hospital, our whole family got a horrible stomach bug......... except for dd. I want to forget that week, lol.

i am getting over a miserable stomach flu and hoping and praying dh and lor don't catch it. The nb should have immunities from you. Big hugs!

My 3 older kids were all sick when I brought #4 home. We came home and noticed that our sitter had kept giving them meds for 4 days (oops! we had two different ones so I cant blame them)... Anyway I came home, and DH left with them to take them to the dr. I just kept them away from baby as much as possible. They didnt get to hold him for like 4 days! He didnt get sick. I think he was getting immunities from my milkies.

Thanks gals! Yeah, that's so true about hospitals. It's nice we are able to go to a freestanding birth center so at least a little less germs!

Mrs. S-Jack had a 103-104.4 degree fever last Sunday and Monday and still had a highish temp on Monday along with a double ear infection. I had the baby on Wedenday, before Jack was feeling totally himself and I didn't really worry about it at all. A week later, we're all doing great. I'm with everyone else--your milk has all the antibodies the baby needs, especially if its germs you're already exposed to!

My DD stayed with my sister and BIL for 24 hours while I was at the center having DS and recovering. She came down with a fever and had green boogers and post-nasal drip within 24 hours of coming home. DS and I both stayed healthy. Between my immune system and breastfeeding around the clock, we were fine.... for a week until our home was inundated by well-wishers bringing meals and gifts, snuggling the new baby in late October with all their germs. Even so, his cold was mild- just a boogery nose, despite the fact that DD and I were laid very low. I firmly believe the breastfeeding kept him from getting as sick as he could have.

Your wee one will be fine

My 2 year old started getting sick last night. I'm pumping him full of Emergen-C to help fight this quickly. I'm taking it myself too. I know my baby probably won't get it but I might and I don't want to have it!
