Re: cord banking..

We are banking for our new baby, and we will be doing delayed cord clamping. If for some reason there isn't enough blood, oh well, we believe it is best for ds to have first dibs on his own blood.

If you decide not to bank the blood, please consider donating it!

oh I absolutely planned on doing something with it- just wasn't sure how to go about doing it.. I am now registered wit CBR and they are sending out the kit for me, we will keep it banked privately and then if someone should need it- family or not- if it is a match we will go about using or donating then. thanks ladies for the info.

Our cost was about $1200 up front and we pay $95 a year for storage. We had a list of different storage facilities to choose from and they varied in price.

Re: cord banking..

I haven't banked with any yet.. With DS1 we couldn't afford it. DS2 I wanted to donate it but at that time they wouldn't accept it from a mother with thyroid disease. DS3 I TOTALLY wanted to do it but I let the midwife talk me out of it. Only to find out later that the reason she didn't want to do it was because she had never done it before and wasn't sure how... not a valid reason IMO. Since DS3's birth DS2 has had several serious health problems so I will be banking LO#4's cord blood when s/he is born.

I read all about how the blood is usually used for a sibling and not the child who has it banked. I regret that we don't have two of our children (at least) with banked cord blood so that all four of our babies would have a better chance of using it but there really isn't anything we can do about that now and we have no plans to have more then four children.
