My son, the vegetarian

My 4yo and I were having a discussion about dinosaurs today. I was telling him the one he had was a brontosaurus, which was an herbivore, or plant-eater. Other dinosaurs are carnivores and eat meat. I then explained we're carnivores because we eat burgers, steak, etc. He said, 'Mommy, I don't want to eat meat.' I asked him why and he said, 'I don't want to talk about it.' I wonder how well that will go over when I tell him his beloved hot dogs are meat.

Oh, but I did assure him that if he didn't want to eat meat, he didn't have to.

Cute! My kids don't eat a lot of meat when they're young, I guess they don't like the texture and it doesn't bother me at all, and if they actually showed a preference to not eat meat I would totally support it, but I love meat too much to go without.

Oh, and when he said that, my 3yo DD yelled, 'Mommy, I LOVE meat!' She's my steak-and-potatoes girl. She'll eat a steak over anything else, any day.

LOL so cute. My DS doesn't really like to eat meat that much. He'll point to the vegetables and say, "I want that." But if you show him a bag of funyuns...but let's say they're vegetables since they're onions.

Hahaha cute - my daughter is basically a veggie girl - we eat meat like every other day I think - but she eats it once every other week.

My oldest was born a vegetarian. The rest of us are all meat loving people. She gagged if I tried to feed it to her as a toddler and now at 12 still can't stand the sight or thought of it.

Re: My son, the vegetarian

My 5-yr-old has decided she is a vegetarian - because she wants to be like Mommy. I don't mind at all, I just want it to be her decision and not because she wants to be like me. The only problem is she has to take her lunch to school each day and will not eat peanut butter and does not like cheese. It's hard to find food for her that can be eaten cold (and she doesn't like raw veggies.)

That is funny. I thought my 5 yo was the only one. She said she doesn't like chicken noodle soup because it tastes like cats. I have no idea where she came up with that.

But, she also doesn't go for much in the way of meat...except fish sticks.
