Question Can you Mill Flax Seed by Hand?

I finally bought flax seed today I know its great for you and I'm excited to start using it (want to add it to my homemade granola). However after getting home from the farmers market I realized I bought 2lbs of WHOLE flax seed and reading online, sounds like its not digestible whole?
I do not have a coffee grinder, blender, processor etc. and wonder if there's a way to grind it by hand? I'm thinking of just putting it in a gallon baggie and smashing it with a hammer
Any ideas?

Just use a mortar and pestle. That would work!

Yep. That's how we do it. It isn't the simplest thing in the world because they are petty slick and slippery, but it works just fine.

You can buy them online. Or at a store that would sell cookware like Macys, Sears, that kind of thing. Wherever you might be able to get items like pots, pans, stand mixers, etc. We got ours at a local cooking store, for example. But you might be able to find one at Target as well.

If there's a Chinatown where you live or an asian supermarket they will carry them and cheaper than the dept. stores.

I've seen them at the grocery store, even, or Bed Bath and Beyond.

Flax seeds aren't the easiest thing to grind up. My grain mill won't grind them, and neither will my food processor.

It actually stays fresher longer when you buy whole seeds. You find can coffee grinders pretty cheap. That's what I use.
