Smile What does a 3 point zig-zag stitch look like??? Thanks!

Hi there,

I have been sewing my diaper elastics in using the blind technique and a regular zig zag stitch (I later serge the edges.) I hear that the 3 point zig zag stitch is better for elastics. My machine has a whole bunch of different types of zig zag stitches, with pictures of the stitch on the machine, but I am not sure what a 3 point stitch is suppose to look like. I would love help on this matter as I am just about to sew in more elastics.

Also, why is the 3 point stitch better, and how much better is it really? Does anyone find that casing the elastic (like GMs) is worth the extra effort? How about durability?

Thanks so much!

Is it the zig zag stitch with dashed lines?

A 3-step zigzag is a zigzag shaped stitch with 3 stitches making up each side of each peak. My sewing machine has a dashed line image for the 3-step zigzag so that might be your stitch

I find the 3 step zigzag is better for sewing FOE on, but I have never liked it for other elastics. I found it broke lastin and reduced the recovery of woven and braided elastics.

I find that casing elastic generally makes it last longer. It's not really a lot of extra effort.
