Re: New Name Dilemma

I had a very good friend in high school named Laney Marie. She was named after her Aunt Elaine who had gone by Laney as a child. Laney is now a researcher for our city library system and has a Master's Degree. Just to show you that Laney and be a "grown up" name and not just a "little girl" name.

I would totally fill out the birth cert as Elaina, and just tell/write/email/whatever that her name is Laney. At her first birthday party write it out as her full name Your MIL couldn't get everyone to change after that!

I totally agree. Don't give the full name.

I love both Elaina and Laney. My niece is Alaina and it is not an issue. She has always gotten compliments on it.

I know two Laney's (maybe Lanie, or Lainie, don't recall), one about my age, and one about 3.

I love Laney as a name! I like Elaina too, and I'm sure if you name her that and just call her Laney people will follow.

Re: New Name Dilemma

I like Laney. I don't get giving a child a name that you don't intend on using.

We have an Alaina and we call her Lainey a lot, but I'm glad she has both names to choose from when she gets older.
