I think DD was about 2. We eat it every night watching a movie in bed. But we don't do microwave popcorn. We only do air popped with a little real butter, so it doesn't have all the icky chemicals in it.

Re: Popcorn: At what age do you allow your child to try it?

I am very careful w popcorn. I think my older 2 didn't have it until they were around 2 years old. My 1 year old has tried a tiny piece here and there, but I had bit everything off it except a tiny soft piece of it with no kernels or anything. I am trying to be a little more relaxed since older DS had such a problem with food and sensory issues that I am trying to expose younger DS to things when he wants to try them. It seems to be making his more open to trying things instead of being picky.

Honestly though I'd be mad if I were you too though. She should've asked you.

MILs have a tendency of pushing our buttons though. For example when DD was little my MIL insisted she needed to potty train and wear pull-ups. I mean honestly she started this when DD was about 15 months old. I told her that she wasn't ready, but everytime we saw her she'd put DD on the potty and put her in a pull-up (which of course had the absorbancy of a swim diaper). To top it off DD was ALLERGIC to pull-ups!!! I found this out after MIL put the 1st one on her. She would get a rash from the front to the back (like bright red and sometimes bleeding) just by wearing them. I told MIL this and she still bought them and put them on DD whenever we saw her. I will say she tried other brands, but they all did the same thing. So....she just still put them on her saying she'd never potty train if we didn't use them. DD potty trained around her 3rd birthday within like a day or 2...and was potty trained all night too by day 5 or so!! She did it at her pace, and I think it was the right way.

My 2 year old still hasn't had popcorn. It doesn't really matter what anyone else's opinion is, if you don't want your child having any food for ANY reason others should respect that.

I have severe food allergies and so my kids are on a restricted diet in a lot of ways. My in laws complete ignore it and in fact, that's a big reason they haven't seen my DD in a year and haven't seen DS at all.

And come to think of it DS has had it at daycare. Her DD is 3 when I saw it there it looked like the kernels were picked through I don't think he's had but a couple pieces.

I'm kind of a bad mom, I think. My 15 month old has had a few kernels, but I break the actual popcorn off and don't give her the middle, kwim?

Re: Popcorn: At what age do you allow your child to try it?

DD was 20 months and she had(still has) 12 teeth. I did not give it to her..my moms SO did and I walked in and was kinda shocked. But she was eating it ok so I didn't pitch much of a fit. She also had popcorn with me the other day at my friends house but she was sitting in my lap. I am still not 100% comfortable with popcorn so she won't be eating it often and I definitely won't offer it to her as a snack. Babies are pretty good at gumming things but popcorn is still a choking hazard.

Yep, DS is almost 16 months, and he's had it a few times.
But I eat the hard stuff off, and only give him the soft part, since the kernel is an obvious choking hazard!
