Re: buying used diapers

I strip all of mine, and wash them a bunch of times. I AM a germaphobic person- with good reason I think- I have seen some nasty things come to me from FSOT, also some pretty horrible Tide buildup. I just want to be able to say that they are as clean as humanly possible when I put them on DD.

Re: buying used diapers

I'd usually do a kind of mini-stripping. It wouldn't be a huge day-long event of several washes of additives and dawn etc etc... But I would put them through first a regular hot wash with a bit of detergent and then maybe one or two additional plain hot washes to deal with any possible detergent build-up.

I always felt like I 'should' be doing more to really 'disinfect them' since in theory there is a risk of things like staph infections (this is what caused eBay to ban the selling of used diapers unfortunetly) but I just could never bring myself to risk damaging my diapers for what is really quite a small risk. I did use some tea tree oil when I found out about it but it's never been studied as to what the proper dilution ratio is in water for it to maintain it's antibacterial properties so while I used a lot just to be sure, I may have been wasting my time and money.

If your buying cloth diapers used typically they are from a mom who took good care of them and knew what she was doing! I run them through the wash twice one with detergent one without my son is sensitive too...I have never had a problem...now ebay used cloth I ask a lot of questions first...

Is eBay allowing the sale of used diapers again? I had no idea!! Wow, that would be wonderful! As much as I love DS and other smaller sale forums, having a wider selection/bigger audience is pretty cool too!

They get rid of possible detergent buildup.

I boiled all the prefolds we got used and then ran them through a sanitizing cycle w/ a little bit of bleach. All the diapers I've bought used I just ran through that sanitizing cycle w/ bleach. I've only had one nasty diaper come off of FSOT, it smelled like urine. But everything else has been clean.
