TPU vs. PUL

Is TPU really more breathable than PUL? I thought they were pretty much the same thing. How does it compare to wool or fleece then?

Re: TPU vs. PUL

They are pretty much the same thing. TextileMike posted about them a while back. One is just the other but farther along in the processing. I can't remember which is which.
I would say neither is breathable. I know companies claim that it is, but it has a plastic laminate on it, I can't see how that can breathe.

Wool is the most breathable but fleece would also be breathable.

Re: TPU vs. PUL

I don't think PUL or TPU are breathable, but fleece and wool will definitely allow your LO's skin to breathe!

Re: TPU vs. PUL

TPU is simply the film part of PUL, it's not a type of PUL. To make PUL a TPU film is laminated to a fabric, typically polyester interlock.

As far as breathable, yeah, I've heard companies claim their PUL/TPU is breathable  There is a polyurethane coating applied to the back of the fabric. Regardless of HOW it was applied, it is still a layer of plastic.

If you want breathable, go with either Poly Fleece or Wool

Re: TPU vs. PUL

I figured they weren't too breathable. We use wool, but I kept seeing people saying TPU was very breathable so I thought I'd ask!
