Keeping diapers for next baby QUESTION
For those that have kept diapers for the next baby, does the elastic stay strong when sitting, not being used? (Not asking if the elastic lasts through two kids, but does the diaper keep its shape, stay in the same condition, as when you first stored it away?) Hope some people can share some insight... just not sure how much to hold on to, or how far in advance to buy some diapers! Thanks!

Re: Keeping diapers for next baby QUESTION
Mine did! In fact, it's my newer prefolds that are "wearing" faster than the old ones!
![]() I think the important thing is keeping them dry and in a cool place. Not easy in the southern US. Ours were in a cool basement in a "sealed" Rubbermaid container. Heat will weaken any synthetics and definitely cause some elastic issues. Definitely keep them moth-free and away from critters of all sizes.

Re: Keeping diapers for next baby QUESTION
Maybe you should vacuum seal them before you put them away.

Re: Keeping diapers for next baby QUESTION
I have a few months before baby is actually here but I went through my stored diapers and many are still good but I did have some that the elastic died on.

Re: Keeping diapers for next baby QUESTION
IME, the elastic goes bad. My dipes were well taken care of, washed properly and put away in a rubbermaid storage tote and stored in a dry, cool place. I took them out to borrow to a friend just a year after I stored them and it was all shot.

Re: Keeping diapers for next baby QUESTION
Thanks for the input... this will definitely affect what I do with my buying and selling for this baby!
Any idea why the elastic would die? I just don't understand... it hasn't happened to any of my clothes that I have saved for my younger son and nephews, so I don't get why it happens to diapers? Any insight?

Re: Keeping diapers for next baby QUESTION
Great post, I'm making up a huge stash for a future baby and was planning on keeping them in the attic. Duh me. I'm so glad you posted this...Now I'm going to put them in one of those under the bed do dads.

Re: Keeping diapers for next baby QUESTION
I think that when Asher is done using his diapers, we will sell off the entire stash. That way, I have a reason to pester my SO for money for NEW diapers! Or at least new wool and covers. The motherease one size fitteds work great for us, so next time around I won't bother trying AIOs or pockets or anything. We got most of our stash from my SO's sister, who bought them back in 2001 and then never used them! So we got an excellent deal, and the elastic was still great when we got them.
