Re: What type of baby-wearing sling/holder do you use?

Not, yet but I'm staying home tonight from church because I contracted all morning and some of the afternoon. I also had trouble this past Tuesday and Thursday. If I can make it to this weekend I'll be 35 weeks!!!! YAY!!!

The Moby is a little tricky at first, but pratice a couple times with a baby doll and it'll be much easier then to try it with Maggie Jo! We're close in size (I'm a M/L shirt and 34/36 DD), so I think the Moby would be a good fit on you too. If you buy one new, it comes with a booklet with good detailed pictures and intructions. Good luck finding one that works for you!

Re: What type of baby-wearing sling/holder do you use?

If wrapping a Moby seems too difficult, you might consider a KTan. They are sized so you should be able to find a perfect fit for you. Another thing you might try is simply making a stretchy wrap. Most fabric stores stock jersey knit fabric. Just get a good length of it (for my size 18 partner we got 7 yards) and have the folks at the cutting counter cut it to a good width (around 30 inches, I think). It won't ravel so you won't have to sew anything.
As for not holding your preemie, your doc needs to check out some modern literature, like, post 1980s. Skin to skin contact is hugely beneficial to preterm munchkins, and allows for great bonding even if mum is wearing regular clothing.

Re: What type of baby-wearing sling/holder do you use?

We had Maggie Jo in for her first weight check. First time my dr. office got to see her I asked about the holding thing.....they laughed, and said, "HOLD THE BABY!" LOL Go figure, silly nicu dr. So yes, I am MUCH happier getting to hold her now! I still feel like she is the most protected in a sling. I tried a new way of holding her in teh ring sling, and I think that it will work alright...I am not hand free, but I have one hand free, and she is nice and happy
I might have to try "making" a stretchy wrap . THanks!

oh, BTW.....Miss Maggie gained almost a pound in a week!!! she left the nicu at 5#8oz, and was 6#, 7oz at the check!!

love the Moby! I also have a pouch sling (like a Hotsling) but I like the Moby for tiny ones because you can nestle them up close. Mine were 34 weekers and started using a Moby at 4 weeks. In the beginning I fit both my twins in it, now I just wear one at a time.

Re: What type of baby-wearing sling/holder do you use?

When I'm carrying just one of them I use the ring sling when I'm carrying both I use a tricotti pouch sling. Ember is about 8 1/2 lbs now and Kaeda is 7 1/2 lbs now but I've been doing it since Ember was about 6 lbs and Kaeda about 5. They were 5 lbs 4 oz and 3 lbs 13 at birth.

Ember in a ring sling

And the girls in the Tricotti
