Too late to EC?

My LO is 6.5 months old and I just heard about this. It really strikes a chord for me. It just kind of makes sense. I also heard though that you really need to start it before 5mths. Is it too late to do EC? Have I missed the window? If not, how should I go about it? Any advice would be great.

Re: Too late to EC?

I wonder why they told you it was too late? It is never too late to start EC!!

Just browse this forum and the sticky threads - you'll find a lot of helpful tips!!

You can give your LO some diaper free time so you can observe when he (sorry I don't know if your LO is a girl or boy so I'm just going to say he) is going and every time he goes, make a cue sound ("psss" is a common one.) Pretty quickly he will likely catch on that "psss" means "pee" and may even start peeing on cue for you when you take him to the potty or toilet. Just try to be consistent. If you watch him enough you may be able to pick up on some cues that he gives when he has to go (say suddenly stopping what he's doing even though he was really interested in it, just to give an example), or you can just use timing (ie. "He hasn't peed in awhile, maybe he has to go now" and then offer.) I use a mix of both. You can also try teaching him the sign for toilet. HTH

Re: Too late to EC?

It's not too late! We only started a few weeks ago and our DS is 8 months old. The only poopy diapers I've washed since have been either a)from stuck in the car seat or B) when with my MIL
Go for it!

Not too late at all. We started with DD at 8 months. I think it was nice to start when she could sit up well already. Worked really well. I think we'll be out of diapers in just a few months at this rate.

Re: Too late to EC?

Never too late! Any step you can take to promote awareness of their elimination is sooo worth it ! With my first I was concerned i wasn't doing things perfectly, but still, eventually saw so much benefit that I realized any step you take is great for your kiddo & for you too. Good luck!

Some people say you need to start at birth but i disagree. My friend started her baby at 8 months and its going really well. My son just started yesterday, hes 5.5 months. Peed in the sink twice yesterday!
