Help!! Stinky ebay dipes!!

I got a really good deal on some FBs on ebay that needed a little TLC. Alot of them needed the elastic replaced. I expected them to be very used...the seller explained that in her listing. But, she didn't say they'd stink!! I didn't notice anything when I first opened them except that they were sorta stiff, not so soft. But after I washed them and dried them in the dryer I was surprised how much it helped with that. So I put one on DS, and when he peed in it it released this stinkin' beast!! It reeked of urine and cigarette smoke, but not until he peed in it. What in the world is causing that and why didn't washing it take that smell out. I hoped it was just a fluke with one, but it's been all of them. Any ideas what I can do to get the stink out?

I'm no expert, but it sounds like they need to be stripped. I've has some of my pockets get that stinky amonia smell once pee'd on when there's detergent build up...

I had this problem (not the smoke one but the pee) when I used too much detergent in my wash. The only thing that worked is running my diapers through the washer on hot a lot of times, I stopped when I saw no more suds. It's amazing how much soap those things can hold!

oh, and one trick to seeing if they're any suds left is to have the wash load with the smallest amount of water (top loading), and have it agitate. If there's still suds, wash again with a the largest amount of water, as hot as you can get it.

Another method of stripping is to use dawn dish soap on the fleece, and scrub!

Yep, wash those dipaers on the hottest possible water your water heater will make. Alot of times people just dont rinse out the detergent well enough in thier routine and so over time it just buildsup. Also, people just add too much.lol
So, the best way IMHO to get that out is to just keep washing on HOT HOT water until the suds are gone.
