Re: Too small carseat and suggestions?

I'm not certain on this because I haven't owned one in a while, but your dd there in the back in the Graco Snugride I believe, IIRC the handle is supposed to either be forward more, or all the way up.
Does anyone know? I could be mistaken.

I think you are right. I think i remember it had to be all the way back, or all the way up...not in between. BUt i could be wrong too, it has been awhile!

Re: Too small carseat and suggestions?

In the current SnugRides (at least the 32/35) the handle can be up. There are 4 locking positions & only 1 is not allowed. Even if it wasn't it looks like there is a person getting ready to take the seat out (or maybe just put it in).

I also wanted to give kudos to the OP. How many times do we see posts on here from friends who see worrisome car seat photos & they either don't know how to approach it OR they mention it to the friend & get a bad response?

Anyway, good for you mama for listening to your friend & making your kids safe!

The OP's kiddo is 4 and 38lbs. The Myride would be a waste at this point. also, while rf is gtreat, a 4yr old in a properly fitting and used ff carseat is very safe.

Re: Too small carseat and suggestions?

The Graco Nautilus is an excellent seat for your son. It is on sale at Amazon for 138!

And yes your son has definately outgrown that seat and needs a new one right away!

Re: Too small carseat and suggestions?

I'd look at Graco Nautilus or Evenflo Maestro. We have both for our cars (Nautilus in DH's and Maestro in mine).

Maestro says 50 inches tall or less "AND the top of their ears are at (or below) the child restraint headrest" and 20-50 lbs to be harnessed. It does convert to a booster for 40-100 lb kids and between 44-57 inches tall BUT (and that's a big but) "AND the top of his/her ears are below the child restrain headrest". So, if your child has outgrown the height requirement for being harnessed, they can't use it as a booster either. It is though, still a good in-between option to keep him harnessed.

There is a carseat message board with measurements of carseats, including top harness slots. You'll need his torso height, which is just the height from his bottom to his shoulders when sitting down. I think it's www.car-seat.org or something like that.
