Sick 18 month old wont eat

My little guy has a virus. (Diagnosed by the dr) and he's been pretty much refusing all food for the last 3 days, except for a bite here and there. He is nursing like a newborn though. Is breastmilk still "enough" or do I need to be trying harder to get something solid in his tummy??

please forgive all typos due to auto correct's lack of mind reading abilities. :-)

I would keep trying small bits of bland food. If it's a stomach virus, then you really have to ramp up slowly to eating again. Try like crackers, jell-o, stuff that's easy on the tummy. It's great that he's nursing, will keep him fed and hydrated! And don't give him any dairy until he's getting better, it's hard on the tummy.

Start slow. Bananas, rice, toast, hard boiled egg etc. breastmilk is good but he likely needs some more calories to get some energy back.

Breastmilk is extremely calorie dense.
I would nurse on demand and follow my gut. When my lo was hospitalised at 19m she nursed without supplemental foods for four days and even after slowly began to eat solids again. She got her appetite back in time.

Breastmilk is one of the only "complete" foods, he is fine with only nursing if that is what he needs right now. Keep offering bland food (BRAT diet: banana, rice, apple sauce and toast) but if he rejects it and is still nursing don't worry. Sorry he is feeling sick mama sometimes I think it is harder on US then the children!

Isn't this the truth!! ESPICALLY when they can't talk yet. I don't worry too much when my 5 year Is sick because I know he'll tell me when it's really bad! But my baby can't tell me where it hurts, or how badly. I practically sit up all night watching him breathe.

As others said, keep offering, but as long as he's getting fluids he's probably OK. The first clue my girls are getting sick is they stop eating. It usually last 3-4 days. Then they make up for it with a vengeance!
