Painful Letdown?

Ds is 3 weeks old now and while the nipple shield is helping with the pain there my letdown is hurting a ton! It has hurt from the beginning but instead of getting better it has been slowly getting even more painful It was just pain in a line from my arm pits but now I will get it under my breasts (like where underwire would sit) as well and sometimes on the inner part of my breasts too. I dread letdown time because it hurts so much. It hurts worse on the right side though ( when I was pumping I always got double the amount of milk from that side-not sure if that makes a difference).

Oh and why do I have letdown when ds isn't even eating or hungry? Drives me nuts!

Re: Painful Letdown?

I had shooting pains with letdown when I had nipple and ductal thrush. So it could be thrush.

And I letdown milk every 2 hours like clock work. Whether DD is hungry or not! I just press my nipples in with the palm of my hand for about a minute and it stops. DD is 3 months and it's been happening since my milk came in.

I have always had very painful let down. It is definitely more painful on the side that produces more. It's like a burning pins and needles sort of sensation all over my breasts almost into my arm pits. I know exactly what you mean about dreading it! And the random let downs will diminish with time.
