Aaaahhhh! Crock pot NOT plugged in!!!

I started two roasts at about 8 am. I just went to look at them and one of the crock pots was turned on low but not plugged in It's been about 3.5 hrs and I have it on high now. But I am wondering if I should just throw it out. It was just over 3.5 lbs of meat (it was a boneless roast) at $2/lb

If it's beef, it should be fine. If it's pork or poultry, I'd throw it out.

It IS a beef roast. But, I also forgot to mention that the particular crock pot that wasn't turned on is on the sunny part of my counter too...

I would just cook the he** out of it and it will probably be fine. Make sure the internal temps are 170+ and you should be fine.

Re: Aaaahhhh! Crock pot NOT plugged in!!!

It should be fine, beef is 'aged' for days unrefrigerated before packaging to improve flavor. If a hot sun was beating on it, it could spoil - it would turn a grey/green, but the sun at this time of year hitting a covered crock pot in the kitchen is unlikely to have enough power to spoil it. I wouldn't worry.

I wouldn't worry about it. Especially if the meat went into the crock pot cold. It takes at least an hour to make it to room temperature. If you are worried, cook it until if falls apart.
