Favorite snacks, pads to draw, coloring books and crayons, breastfeeding and a laptop to play cartoons saved us on our flight to Europe from the West Coast last year. My oldest was almost 5 and my baby had just turned 1. The baby nursed and slept for 9 of the 10 hours, and my oldest ate lots of snacks (this was a red eye flight but he didn't sleep at all) colored 4 different coloring books and watched Finding Nemo twice on the flight out. The flight home was much the same.
