Would you feel comfortable taking out implanon yourself?

I got the implanon implant 3 months ago, Its causing weight gain, moodiness and increased hair loss. I do not have insurance, but really want this thing out. Would you feel comfortable taking this out yourself? I'm guessing I'd
get some numbing cream, an exacto knife, tweezers and some neosporin and bandages...talk to me! I called my OB and it'll cost $375 to
get it out. No can do. . Wwyd?

I would check with the health department or planned parenthood way way way way way before considering removing it myself. They should do it at no cost or at a very reasonable rate. It sounds like you are setting yourself up for an infection.

No way. I had mine removed last year and while it wasn't hard or anything, that's just not something I would recommend doing. She numbed me with an injection of something and then cut in the same place it was put in and used some big tweezer like things to get it out. And then she put that glue stuff on it so it would not be open and wrapped me up. Like the pp said, I would contact health department to see if they could help you.

PLEASE don't do any medical procedures on yourself! You can seriously do damage even if you think it's something minor.

Please do not do this to yourself! Have you checked into Planned Parenthood yet? I bet they could take it out for much cheaper!

Definitely not. Please see if you can find somewhere to have it taken out for less.

Re: Would you feel comfortable taking out implanon yourself?

Many years ago when I had the Norplant, I had bad side effects. It was $300++ to get it removed. I contacted the company that made it and they sent me a certiicate of some sort to have it removed. Maybe you could try something like that? If not, definitely contact Planned Parenthood or the Health Dept. If they can't do it, they may be able to steer you in the right direction.

Re: Would you feel comfortable taking out implanon yourself?

Noooo, don't do it yourself! I had my Implanon removed by my ob/gyn and it was not easy for him to get out of my arm - it did not just slide out like I thought it would, he had to get kinda rough with it for it to budge and I had a severe bruise. The removal was something I will never forget.

I think PP had a good suggestion about contacting the company to see if they'll help you get it removed somehow, or the health dept. or Planned Parenthood.
