Re: stinky pee

Well, I've heard that boy pee is simply stronger smelling than girl pee, and having had a couple of each gender flavor I would have to agree with that! As far as a build up concern, the washing sounds right. Have you tried Dawn dishsoap (non-ultra) to strip them? It works great for me. I also use baking soda in my wash, but I try to stay away from vinegar now as I'm on a well and the combination of well water and vinegar does nasty smelly things to my dipes...I use mostly prefolds in wraps, and even the prefolds are hard to get smell free if I use vinegar. Adding a small amount of bleach in is ok too, provided you rinse very very well.

Actually it could very well be something that you ate that made his pee smell a little different, but he also could be peeing more because he is eatting more. He has become more efficient in eatting more in a short time. About 10 weeks is when my lil one started to eat more in a sitting and therefore what comes in must come out. We did bottle and breast and that is how I could tell the difference.

Re: stinky pee

I just wanted to say, what a HUGE difference this morning when I walked into ds's room. I usually walk into the strong smell of ammonia but after doing the washing routine above, it didn't smell one bit. His inserts weren't stinky one bit!!!

I guess I figurered out what works for us.

Where do you get sport wash? We are dealing with the same stinky pee issue. His smells yuck on first pee and it almost smells woody....I use TTO (maybe part of the culprit). I tried dawn the other night. Seemed better at frist but last night they still smelled. I might go for boiling. Thanks for the tips.

Re: stinky pee

Walmart has it in their Sporting Goods Section or you can buy Sensiclean online.

Re: stinky pee

I agree to try stripping them. My son got a serious rash (blisters and everything) after being in a FB overnight and waking up smelling REALLY BADLY of ammonia. I would just suggest doing it as a precautionary thing, and see how it goes with your regular washing system after that. I just want to make sure he doesn't end up getting what my son had - it was awful!

Re: stinky pee

I tried stripping them with Dawn last night...smelled better coming out but after peeing today...smell back (not as bad tho). Going to get some sports wash and try....boiling the inserts now. I don't want my baby smelling bad. I really think it is some type of build up. We have terrible water around here...hopefully something will help.
