Re: Would you do it? Donor Milk?

OP, another great source of milk is www.milkshare.com. There is a registration fee for people seeking milk, but it is SO worth it. Most of Cecilia's milk has come from there. Also, there are local forums right here on diaperswappers, and local tribes on mothering.com. All have worked for me to get milk!

How have any of yall brought this up with your pedi? What, if anything, did they say about it? What did you say to address their concerns?

Re: Would you do it? Donor Milk?

Well, my ped is very very "alternative" or "crunchy" friendly, so YMMV if yours isn't. But mine thinks it is a wonderful thing. She advised me to give Cecilia donor milk for as long as I possibly can.

Just a note: I found my pediatrician by asking my least mainstream friends for recommendations. I figured if they had a ped they trusted, then she'd work well for me too.

Re: Would you do it? Donor Milk?

I have fed donor milk to all 4 of my children as I have been unable to exclusively BF due to low supply (IGT, PCOS, etc...). Most of my donors were close friends, but there was one local woman who I met through Milk Share. Honestly, I think that if someone is willing to donate, they are more than likely the type of person who keeps up with their health because they are obviously providing breast milk for one of their own. It did freak my DH out at first, but I compared it to drinking cow's milk from hundreds of cows, how is that any different? Honestly, I'd rather give my children breast milk from 1 or 2 women than milk from hundreds of different cows that wasn't meant for them!

Precisely! That was my argument as well, on both sides.

Re: Would you do it? Donor Milk?

I registered on milkshare and ponied up the 20$ but still havent found one person. We are probably going to run out of donor milk tomorrow, Monday for sure. I went and bought formula today. Im supposed to go Tuesday or Thursday and pick up some from a new donor but its only a small amount....still I will take it.

This is really bumming me out!!

I'm sorry, bluecandi! Don't give up, though, donors come through all the time! Have you also looked on your local board here, and on MDC, and Eats on Feets?

Hi there,

I've seen your threads on Milkshare. I'm currently donating to a preemie baby I found on there. Try Eats on Feets. Go through the donor tab and message moms to check to see if they have any milk or if they would be willing to begin saving some for you.

I'm trying to get my milk up a little more and will try to remember to check with you if I get it up a little more to be able to help you out a little.

Also, check the "willing to ship" section. I've heard that it's not really expensive if you ship from the surrounding states.

In the Texas thread there is a lady in Austin. If you are willing to take a drive, you might want to check with her.

ETA: just saw you already posted a message.

I see that you are posting responses. Are you PM'ing them, also? That may help.

Good luck.
