Anyone else's DC had this problem with juice?
A couple of weeks ago I asked for help with a rash that my son had. It was horrible, big huge blisters and burned looking skin. I have since figured out that he can't have ANY juice. DH gave him 3 sippies of juice yesterday
as well as some oranges and it is the worst yet. It looks like someone has taken sandpaper and rubbed all the skin on his hiney off. Poor baby, he screams and cries when you change his dipe.My IL's started the juice, for some reason my MIL thinks he needs juice, my DH agrees and I don't. We have always watered it down with more than half water. Needless to say, he will be getting NO more juice. (MIL suggested cranberry juice today , don't get me started on that!)I am just curious if anybody else's dc has had this reaction to juice.

Re: Anyone else's DC had this problem with juice?
Yes! Both of my sons, actually. Juice - pretty much anything, but anything with pineapple is the WORST. And LOTS of juices have pineapple in it - even if it's not on the label. Even just "plain" juices..a lot of grape juices or berry juices have pineapple. They can't have very many fruits...if they do, it has to be just a few bites/pieces. They can have apples, strawberries, pears, peaches, and mandarin oranges. Everything else can have a bad reaction. It's terrible! It took me SO long to figure this out!!

Sounds like a bad citrus reaction, poor kid. They're pretty common, lots of kids react that way when young and grow out of it as they get older. Kids don't need juice anyway.

Yep, my oldest DD now 14, couldn't have apple juice. It gave her the worst rashes, blistering bleeding things. She doesn't like apples or apple juice now, even at 14

Yep, my 5 yr old had that problem when he was younger, with apple juice. he's fine with it now though, so hopefully yours will outgrow it as well.

My son couldn't stomach any just (even watered down) until recently -- red, flaming, sore bottom-- as well as runs.

Yeah, doc's told me it was "acidity burns". So, basically..anything that's highly acidic going in - we avoid.

Re: Anyone else's DC had this problem with juice?
My DS doesn't (that I know of), but my former DC child does. His mom finally found a "juice" that he can tolerate but its like 8% juice.
![]() Stand your ground though mama. Kids and babies do NOT need juice. My DS is 22mo and has barely had any his whole life - whole fruits are much better for them. |

Re: Anyone else's DC had this problem with juice?
Thanks mamas. DS will be getting NO more juice. I feel so bad for him, he loves it but I can't stand to see his bottom look like this.
Now to convince DH that he doesn't need it.

Re: Anyone else's DC had this problem with juice?
My DD has the same problem, took us a lot longer to figure it out
Apple juice is the worst for her, she hasn't even had any citrus at all. I have found that she can drink the 100% white grape juice ok, but I water it down alot. I buy the frozen concentrate and mix extra water into it to begin with and then when I fill her cup it is about half water, half juice. So she is probably really ony getting 1/3-1/4 juice. If you DC is that sensitive you may also want to watch out for applesauce, raw apples, and tomato products, as well as citrus that you are already aware of. These have all be culprits for my 20 mo. She can eat pears, so I guess they aren't as acidic. |
