Re: August 2010 - December chat
Has anyone started solids yet?
When we went to YDD's 4 month appointment (at 4.5 months, we were a bit late) the ped said to go ahead and start offering rice cereal whenever we wanted. She said anytime between 4 and 6 months is fine. I thought that it was supposed to be 6 months? I don't know. She does seem to be hungrier lately though. She is still EBF, but has been eating (gah!) 8-9 times a day. Still. She will be 5 months old this weekend. She sleeps from 7:30pm to about 6am (I'm lucky, I know!) so that works out to every 2 hours or less ALL DAY LONG. I feel like all I do is feed this child. Maybe rice cereal would help me out. I would love to get 3 hours between feedings. It would help my sanity.

Could she be going through a growth spurt? Teething? I probably won't introduce solids until Heather is closer to a year old. That's what I did with Holly, although she wasn't really interested until 13-14 months. I don't think Heather is ready yet, anyway.

Re: August 2010 - December chat
We've been doing solids since 4 months, but it's been a very slow process. 1 new food every 5 days. I'm not taking it too seriously, some things go down and somethings don't. But generally not more than a tablespoons worth. Starting solids in no way has effected to amount she nurses though. I think in the next few weeks you'll notice more time between feedings. Beekers is up to 4 hours, on her own accord.

Re: August 2010 - December chat
I'm thinking about it b/c I head back to work at the end of the month and E won't take a bottle, and I want her to have something that she can eat while I'm gone to work. (I was actually coming on to ask this exact question!). I'll be working 4 days/2 weeks (4 on 10 off) and two of them I'll be gone for about 15 hours. She will have to eat something. Ellie is most definitely interested and I've let her try what I'm eating (ie, suck on an apple or a banana, but not actually "eat" yet). She is just a tad bit over 5 months now and my plan was to wait until she was 6 months, but with her refusing a bottle, I feel like I need start them now. Any thoughts?

Re: August 2010 - December chat
Megs, I watched a little guy last year who at 5 months (when he started coming to our house) wouldn't take a bottle. We tried a different kind (evenflow) and it did work better but she moved him to a sippy with the soft bottle/nipple lid and he did ok with that. More work for us to hold it but he still took some milk. Hope she does ok!

Re: August 2010 - December chat
Heather and s2grace thank you! We're going to give sippies a try again, and then she (my mom) says she'll just spoon feed her BM if needed...she will take water from a spoon. I'd really prefer to delay solids for a little bit longer. She may be ready but I'm not! She never acts like she is hungry, I think she's more wanting to mimic what we're doing rather than actually wanting to eat. We'll just keep plugging away. I hate to think of her hungry and crying while I'm at work.

Re: August 2010 - December chat
![]() How is everyone doing? How are your LOs? Heather's been wanting only me lately. Even if SO is holding her, she'll do this face where she brings her bottom lip up, or she'll put her lips together like an "O" and do this little whimper. Also, she's been scooting around since 3.5 months and now at 5 months is almost crawling. She doesn't even have to crawl - she gets around so well! She has no interest in rolling over, though. I can't believe she will be six months old next month. It is going by way too quickly!
