Re: I think I weirded out my MIL
My sister had her baby 5 weeks before I had my first. We live in the same city. I stay at home with my kids. She went back to work. For a while, my sister was struggling to pump enough during work hours to keep up with her son's demand. I on the other hand, had WAY too much milk. I would pump just for comfort. My sister happily used my extra milk for her son. Pumping and working can be challenging. There were days she would be so proud of herself for pumping 15-20 ounces at work, only to get to the baby sitter's house an find her son had taken 20+ ounces.

Re: I think I weirded out my MIL
I think my families are used to me doing weird stuff that it doesn't bother them any more! ...or at least they don't say anything to me about it!
That was such an awesome thing to do!

Re: I think I weirded out my MIL
Awesome on your part (and your dh's). My MIL would definitely be weirded out by it too. Pretty funny

Re: I think I weirded out my MIL
ditto on how weird it is that people are still weirded out by breastfeeding and sharing breastmilk.. i had a really really good supply of breastmilk and my MIL suggested i give some to "other babies around there that don't have any" of course she's from another country and it's much less of an issue over there.. she's even suggested i should offer "wet nurse" services to her daughter and daughter-in-law since neither of them were able to breastfeed...they weren't grossed out at all..
as an aside, i gave some bm to my preteen and SO when they were having tummy issues and it helped them.. i read a study about some component of bm killing cancer cells so i figured it couldn't hurt them any if i gave them some.. LOL although i guess that does sound kinda strange.. Last edited by SFOducky; 12-12-2010 at 11:42 PM. |

Re: I think I weirded out my MIL
I have a LOT of milk stored in my mom's freezer at her house, and I'd have to give him at LEAST 3 bottles of it per day, everyday to get through it all before it expired. She's ready to post it on Craigslist to donate it. Before I had my DS 4 years ago, she probably would've been weirded out by it. But my mom has learned so much from me :-)
ETA: I have also given some to my other children. The 4 year old doesn't care for it much, but my 2 year old asks for it alot. I almost feel guilty that I've quit pumping, cause I don't have any fresh to give to him lol.

Re: I think I weirded out my MIL
Way to go! Hopefully it does help her out! I have such a hard time getting enough pumped when i am making a quick run to the store and my LO is left with my DH, i'm proud of you for parting with some of that liquid gold!
