what to do with steel cut oatmeal?

stupid me , I thought it was like the rolled oat meal from Quaeker....

So, now I have a few cans and need some recipes what to do with them.

Do you have some recipes/ideas for baking and cooking? Can I use them for making bread?

Re: what to do with steel cut oatmeal?

Here is an overnight crockpot recipe for steel cut oatmeal. My kids love waking up to a big pot of this in the winter since they don't have to wait for me to cook it. I vary the fruits and seasonings depending on what we have.

Here is a good link for everyone who got in on the Kmart deal.

Re: what to do with steel cut oatmeal?

I cook mine on the stove (too worried about leaving the crockpot on overnight) 4 c of water to 1 c of oats for about 30-40 minutes. At the 25-30 minute mark I add some (1/2 c maybe) of both raisins and dried cranberries. I also add in some saigon cinnamon. This will make enough for 3-4 adult servings. I love to eat it in the am. I just keep what I didn't eat the am before in the fridge, and heat it up each am. It is my favorite oatmeal (I don't like rolled oats). It is also good with 2/3c steel cut oats, and 1/3 cup barley. The barley needs to cook a bit longer if you like it soft, I don't. I prefer it with a bit of crunch.

Re: what to do with steel cut oatmeal?

Go to the McCanns website and there are several recipes on there that you can use tem for. I made the banana bread the other day...but instead of a load, I made muffins....they were super yummy.

I had that "oh no" moment too when I first realized that there was a difference LOL

mccanns website looks like it has some good recipes! thanks for posting. The breakfast booster looks great and super easy...my kids LOVE yogurt so it should be a hit! I'll make muffins/bread with it, oatmeal of course, in with meatloaf and burgers...thats all i have so far.

Put the oats in the blender dry and grind up until it looks like flour. Use in place of flour in lots of things.
