How long do they last?

How long do the diapers, specifically covers, last? For example, do you use your covers for multiple children? Any special care that they need while unused? I have seen some posts about ?brittle or worn out elastic - how long does it take for this to happen? Do you need to wash them periodically while in storage?

TIA!

Re: How long do they last?

I'd say with proper washing and larger rotations they can last for generations. Don't use to much detergent or you get repelling issues and the same with fabric softners or sheets (never use them). Elastic should last but in most dipes I have found it can be replaced if it does get shot. I kept all our nicer dipes for the next baby. Pul can seperate from the cloth so remember if you line dry, put them in the dryer every once in a while to re adhere it! I only use the dryer. Every once in a while I like to strp them with a drop or 2 of dawn. Also, while ppl say to stay away from bleech, we swear by it. It can be hard on the materials but I add just a tad to the water then add the dipes otherwise we get stinkey dipes. Hasn't hurt a dipe yet! Vinigar works great in the rince cycle as well. It in a natural softner and aids in the no-stink process, lol. HTH!!
