cake

How come my cakes come out tasting like poo/cornbread? At first i was using the wrong flour then i switched to cake flower and i noticed a difference (but i don't know why i couldn't just do something to the flour to make it the same) and it still taste like my kids made it Help me mamas!

Re: cake

Are any of your ingredients expired? Are you properly creaming your sugar and butter (or oil) are your ingredients room temp? That is so frustrating, I hope you can figure it out . . .

Re: cake

Are the ingredients measured? When I do normal cooking I estimate but when you bake they need to be correct to the recipe. Are you substituting any ingredients?

Creaming is when the butter or margarine is room temp and you mix it with the sugar.

Yes, the temperature of the butter actually does make a difference.

Can you post what recipe you used that is giving you poor results?

Re: cake

Do you use a cold stick of butter straight from the fridge? I always microwave the butter to soften it or sometimes even melt it (for cakes and cookies.) So yeah maybe that is why... what cake recipe are you trying to make?

Re: cake

I agree about the butter temp, and would also add that you probably need to sift, measure and then sift the flour a second time with the other dry ingredients.

Additionally, a homemade yellow cake won't ever taste like a boxed one.
