Buying Breastmilk?

Ok, I'm not really sure where to post this so move me or let me know if this isn't the correct place.

I have a friend who is on the young end of the "old for having kids" scale. I think she's 37. She just had a baby boy who is now 10 weeks old. Maybe a bit older. Anyway, he was preemie because of a placenta previa and had a few other complications after he was born. He seems to be fine but breast feeding has been TERRIBLE. He can't latch correctly even with specialist help and an experienced moma. So, my friend, Heidi has been pumping and feeding the whole time. Which hasn't been going well. Her supply is low and inconsistent despite ample fluids, calories and supplements. She's nervous about doing formula and may be interested in buying breast milk but neither she nor I know where to look for that OR how to know that she would be getting clean and "good" (i.e. not expired or contaminated) breast milk.

Help?

A lot of moms donate (for free or cost of bags) through human milk 4 human babies and eats on feets. You just type those into google and your state and a link should come up. They are on Facebook too so you can just type them into the search.

Re: Buying Breastmilk?

Try Eats on Feets or Human Milk 4 Human Babies on FB. You're connected with other pumping moms who have extra milk. She can always request her donor to do a blood test to screen for any diseases (at the recipients expense), tho some moms have already done this. You meet the donor and meet their baby(ies). I've donated several times on EOF and recieved donor milk after I had mastitis.

Re: Buying Breastmilk?

if your friend is also in Oregon you should have no issues finding a donor. They have a very active board!

also, (and I didn't even think about this until the MW said it) if your friend wants to ask for blood work, which she should, to show the donor is healthy, you can call your Dr or MW and have them fax the blood work. Usually they do all that in the pregnancy panel in the beginning. "Blood work" seemed intimidating to me because funds are tight, and I didn't have money to spend so I could donate, but luckily it was already done!
