Me too

Alcohol metabolizes out of you milk like it does your blood and only about 1% of the alcohol you drink is in your milk at any given time. It doesn't stay in your milk! Have a glass of wine and enjoy it!! You deserve it mama!

Here is a chart in kilograms of how long it takes for the alcohol to be out of your system.

here is a converter site, lol!

http://manuelsweb.com/kg_lbs.htm

http://www.beststart.org/resources/a...eskref_eng.pdf

So if you weight 175 lbs it takes roughly 2 hours for the alcohol to leave your milk.

Re: Wine and breastfeeding?

And does alcohol...beer increase milk suplly...? No

DEAR DR. DONOHUE: Does beer increase breast-milk production? I am breastfeeding my baby, and I've been told by more than one person that it does. — S.T.
ANSWER: Neither beer nor any other form of alcohol increases milk production. Alcohol passes into breast milk. Babies cannot handle alcohol as older people do. Their livers haven't matured enough. It can harm the baby.

It is not the alcohol it is the yeast in beer and the alcohol itself can actually decrease your supply temperarally.

Effects of alcohol on breastfeeding and the breastfed baby
•Alcohol does not increase milk production. In fact, babies nurse more frequently but take in less milk in the 3-4 hours after mom has had a drink, and one study showed a 23% decrease in milk volume with one drink (Mennella & Beauchamp 1991, 1993; Mennella 1997, 1999).
•2+ drinks may inhibit let-down (Coiro et al 1992; Cobo 1974).
•One study showed changes in the infant's sleep-wake patterning after short-term exposure to small amounts of alcohol in breastmilk -- infants whose mothers were light drinkers slept less (Mennella & Gerrish 1998).
•Daily consumption of alcohol has been shown in the research to increase the risk for slow weight gain in the infant.
•Daily consumption of alcohol (1+ drinks daily) has been associated with a decrease in gross motor development (Little et al 1989).

Re: Wine and breastfeeding?

After 9 months of no alcohol, my tolerance was so low that one glass was too much! After another 9, I can have one or two glasses with dinner. My doctor has six kids and an MD, and she told me not to worry about a glass or two with food.

Re: Wine and breastfeeding?

I started when DS was about 8 months and eating more solids. We'd go out to dinner, I'd have my wine, we'd all eat, and then go home, do bath time, and then he'd nurse to sleep. Wish I could have a glass now, but I'm preggo!!! LOL. Lots of time to wait.

Re: Wine and breastfeeding?

I like this thread. I want to have a small drink but I have been worried about it. I even bough those test strips for alcohol in breast milk. This thread really puts my mind at ease. Thanks Mamas!

Re: Wine and breastfeeding?

I've had wine while nursing. Even a wine cooler :P Just one or one glass. DS hasn't acted any differently with me drinking it. I only have a glass every once in awhile. Some say its okay once a day.
